CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 14th MAY, 2022
The 2022 Central Coast Rugby Union season continues next Saturday with Round 6.
The Match of the Day will be the clash at Kariong Oval when Kariong take on the Razorbacks. These two teams are coming off a win each last week, although Kariong’s victory was two weeks ago because of their last week’s bye. This will be a close one. Both teams are coming into form after what was a relatively slow start to the season. Kariong showed they are in form when they easily accounted for Hornsby in their last outing. Kariong are always very strong at home but the Razorbacks have proved they play well away from home - they have not had a match at home yet this season but have still played some very constructive rugby. Both teams are currently positioned high on the competition ladder and both will be most keen to keep their position there. It all makes for an interesting game of rugby on the hill next weekend.
Terrigal have their first trip away from home this coming Saturday when they travel to Pennant Hills Oval No.1 to take on home team Hornsby. Terrigal will go in this clash as quite firm favourites. Hornsby have not performed that well over the last two Saturdays and have had two losses in a row now and will be keen to get back to form and upset the Terrigal team who still remain undefeated this season. Hornsby must play out the full 80 minutes if they are to overcome Terrigal. Terrigal will be even stronger this Saturday after what was such a hard workout against Avoca Beach last weekend. They will be much better for that run.
Gosford will be at home next Saturday when they host Warnervale at Gosford Showground. Both teams are coming off very pleasing wins last weekend so both teams will be most keen to keep that form going. Warnervale had a highly meritorious win after the previously undefeated The Lakes so they are one of the form teams in the competition at present. They will be very difficult to defeat. Gosford got their first win of the season last Saturday after two losses. They enjoyed that win and would be most keen to experience that feeling again. However Warnervale will be favoured to win this match based on the results and form seen from both teams so far this year.
Avoca Beach are at home to Woy Woy on Saturday at Heazlett Park. Avoca Beach will go into this clash as firm favourites. Avoca Beach has had a great start to the season with 2 wins and a close loss while Woy Woy are yet to get that first victory. Avoca Beach are also at home which is a huge bonus for them. Woy Woy have the individual players and they will get stronger as a group as the year goes on. But they do face a tough uphill battle this coning Saturday against a team which has been one of the form sides in the competition so far this year.
This coming weekend The Bay Rugby Club will take on The Lakes at Josepha Banks Oval in the President’s Cup clash.
The Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition continues next Saturday. Saturday will see Terrigal travel to Hornsby in a clash between the two undefeated teams in this competition. This should be a great game of rugby. The combined Kariong/Razorbacks team will play The Lakes at Kariong Oval in what should also be another close tussle.

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 7th MAY, 2022
The 2022 Central Coast Rugby Union season continues next Saturday with Round 5.
The Premier 1 competition is known as the Swietelsky Premier 1 competition.
The Match of the Day in Round 5 will be the seaside derby at The Haven Oval when Terrigal will host Avoca Beach. This match will be played under lights at 6 pm at The Haven Oval. These two teams are yet to lose a match this year so both teams will be most keen to maintain that record. Both teams could not have hoped for a better start to season results wise, especially Avoca Beach, who have had two great wins against top teams in Kariong and Hornsby. This match is always one of the highlight matches of the season no matter the positioning of the two teams on the competition ladder. With these two teams having such good starts to the season, there is so much expected from the clash. Terrigal are at home and the current Premiers, but meet a team in Avoca Beach who have had two tough matches and have recorded two great wins. It all makes for a great event on Saturday night.
The Lakes will host Warnervale at Slade Park in what is another very exciting clash. This clash is also a local derby and this brings the very best standard of rugby out in both teams. This contest is also a night game, and play commences at 6 pm at Slade Park. Both these teams, like the teams discussed above, are yet to lose a match. So, both would be most pleased with their start to the season. However, this match will be close. Both teams have had very comfortable wins against Woy Woy so this fact alone suggests the match next Saturday at Budgewoi will be a cliff hanger. The Lakes are at home which is a massive plus for them. However, Warnervale have built up for this season and were most impressive in their first hit out of the season two weeks ago. This contest will go right down to the wire and the result will not be known until very late into the evening on Saturday night.
Hornsby will host the Razorbacks at Pennant Hills Oval No.1 on Saturday. This is an important clash for both teams. They are both coming off a loss from last weekend and will be most keen to get quickly back onto the winning track as soon as possible. The match will be played at a new venue for both teams so Hornsby really does not have any distinct home ground advantage. The Razorbacks played well last week but could not get that win. They will be keen to do so on Saturday. Hornsby will be keen to forget last week’s effort after what was a disappointing loss to Kariong. It all makes for an intense and exciting game of rugby this coming weekend.
Woy Woy and Gosford meet on Saturday at Woy Woy Oval. Neither of these teams has recorded a win this season so both will be most keen to get that first win on Saturday. Both teams have shown patches of good form but neither has done enough over the 80 minutes period for the last two Saturdays. Both teams will see this clash as a great chance to turn their season around and to finally get those points on the competition ladder. Woy Woy have the home ground advantage but Gosford have shown a real determination on the paddock despite their two losses this year.
This Saturday, The Bay Rugby Club will have a bye in President’s Cup.
The Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition continues next Saturday. This year the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will be six teams in this year’s competition. All 6 teams are in action on Saturday. Hornsby will meet Kariong/Razorbacks, Terrigal play Avoca Beach and Warnervale meet The Lakes in the local derby. The last two matches will be played under lights prior to the evening Premier 1 matches.

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 30th APRIL, 2022
The 2022 Central Coast Rugby Union season continues next Saturday with some very exciting clashes.
The Match of the Day in Round 4 will be the clash at Ourimbah Rugby Park when the Razorbacks will host Avoca Beach. Both teams performed very well last week with Avoca Beach getting a close win and the Razorbacks playing out an exciting draw with The Lakes. So both teams have started the season in fine form and will very much like that to continue this form this coming weekend. There is absolutely nothing between these two teams, and the match will play out the full 80 minutes. The home ground advantage to the Razorbacks may be the only difference, in what will be a closely fought struggle.
Kariong Oval will host another exciting clash when Kariong meet Hornsby. This is a local derby and both teams are always so keen to get the victory over the other. Hornsby are coming off a great win last Saturday, while Kariong had a very close loss even though they scored two tries to one last week. Kariong know they can win this clash, but the visiting Hornsby team will also have that same feeling. This is another game of rugby where it is almost impossible to pick a winner.
Terrigal will finally commence their season on Saturday when the play Gosford at The Haven Oval. Terrigal had the bye last Saturday so they will be keen to go. Gosford played quite well last week despite the loss and they will improve as the season goes on. Terrigal will go into the match as favourites based simply on the fact that they are at home and also that they are the reigning Premiers. Gosford have nothing to lose on Saturday and they will push Terrigal for the 80 minutes in this encounter.
Woy Woy will host The Lakes at Woy Woy Oval this coming Saturday. The Lakes will go in this clash as firm favourites based on the results from last weekend. However Woy Woy at home will be much stronger and they will be most keen to make improvements on their efforts from last Saturday. The Lakes were strong in their draw last Saturday and will be keen to secure their first win in this match. This will be an exciting clash. It will be high scoring match as both teams like to spread the ball and this could result in many tries on the day.
The Bay Rugby Club will be playing in the President’s Cup once again this year. On Saturday they will play Warnervale at Woongarrah Oval.
Saturday also sees the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition continuing. This year the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will be seven teams in this year’s competition. Unfortunately the Razorbacks and Kariong have combined for the rest of the season. This weekend will see Hornsby play The Lakes, while the combined Razorbacks/ Kariong team are up against Avoca Beach.

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 23rd APRIL, 2022
The 2022 Central Coast Rugby Union season hopefully will commence next Saturday.
The first two rounds have been postponed due to the very wet weather and these two rounds will be played later in the year.
Everyone is hoping that the season will finally commence next Saturday.
Round 2 sees four (4) Swietelsky Premier 1 matches – in fact this round will be very close in all four matches.
Another feature of this year will be the company SWIETELSKY continuing as a major sponsor of Central Coast Rugby Union. The Premier 1 competition will be known as the Swietelsky Premier 1 competition.
The Match of the Day in Round 3 will be the clash at Slade Park when The Lakes will host the Razorbacks. The Razorbacks will go into this clash as very slight favourites. This is based on the fact of their good performances last year. The Lakes do have the home ground advantage to offset this, so this match will go right down to the wire. However, this match, like all the others, makes up for a very interesting series of clashes in this opening third round. The Razorbacks, like all teams, have found the pre-season so difficult because of the very wet conditions of late. Because of the extremely wet weather of late, teams have found it almost impossible to have a normal team training session. So all teams will be a little underdone in their preparation so upset results could easily result. The Lakes were having a wonderful year in 2021 and were right in the picture when the season was curtailed. They will be strong again in 2022 under Coach Marshall Hemopo. He has had a most successful couple of years and he will be hoping his team will go right through to the big ones this year. This will be a hard fought and exciting match at Budgewoi.
Heazlett Park will host an equally interesting clash on Saturday between Avoca Beach and Kariong. These two teams had very similar seasons last year with both well positioned when the season was cut short. However, this is a different and new year. Kariong seem to be well prepared under new Head Coach Louise Ferris. Like most teams so far this year, things have been kept very close to the chests so little is known of many of the club squads. A very wet preseason has limited the preparation of teams with many training sessions called off, and even some trial matches. So, the first few weeks will be very important in telling us the form and prospects of teams this year. Michael Burgess, the Avoca Beach coach, will also have his charges fully prepared for this clash. These two coaches would be just keen to get onto the paddock, and obviously would be hoping for a victory first up. It is very difficult to choose a winner in this clash because of so many unknown factors, and it may just be the home ground advantage for the Avoca Beach side that will see them in front at the 80 minute mark. Both teams know the Challenge Shield will be up for grabs in this match so that adds a little incentive to the game on Saturday.
Hornsby travel to Gosford Showground on Saturday to play Gosford. Hornsby is coached this year by Tristan Jones and Chris Woutersz, so the match sees many new faces both off the paddock as well as on the playing field. Hornsby will go into this clash as very clear favourites. They had a great season last year and have been preparing well for this season. There is also the factor that Gosford are coming back into the competition after a most difficult 2021. Gosford are back in the competition after having to withdraw from the season last year. They have a new coach in Jack Pike and, although, like other clubs, they have had a disjointed pre-season, they will be ready to go next Saturday. Gosford will go into the clash with a very inexperienced squad of players but a group that are determined to do well.
Woy Woy and Warnervale meet on Saturday at Woongarrah Oval. This is a mot difficult match in which to predict a winner. Both teams will want to have improved seasons this year. The two teams had their ups and downs last year but both will be keen to be in the big matches at the end of this season. Both teams have reportedly built up in the off season but it all becomes a reality on Saturday when they will see how much improvement has taken place. Warnervale do have the home ground advantage which is a huge plus. These two teams did meet in a trial match in the Swietelsky Shield in March and Warnervale prevailed in that clash. But this is a competition match and much more is at stake on Saturday.
The Bay Rugby Club will only be playing in the President’s Cup once again this year. On Saturday they will play Terrigal at home at Joseph Banks Oval in their first match and the result of this match is almost impossible to predict.
Saturday also sees the start of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. This year the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will be seven teams in this year’s competition. It will take several weeks before these teams sort themselves out but it all makes for some interesting rugby in the opening rounds of this year’s competition. This weekend will see Terrigal playing Warnervale, The Lakes will host the Razorbacks, and Avoca Beach will meet Kariong.
