In what is shaping as such a crucial day in Central Coast Rugby Union, Saturday’s Round 16 action sees the 6 teams that are fighting for the Top Five Final Series, all playing.

All three matches stand out as ‘Match of the Days’ in what is a wonderful round of local rugby. The three matches sees the first team on the competition ladder playing the second team, the third team playing fourth, and fifth playing sixth.

The first of the three matches, that are all so important, is the clash to be played at The Haven Oval when Terrigal will host the Razorbacks. At the start of the season most people would have thought that these two teams would be favoured to go all the way to the big one at the end of the year. But things have chopped and changed throughout the season, but at the present time these two teams are placed first and second on the ladder. A win in this match would all but secure a Finals berth for this year, but also the chance to get the Minor Premiership. So there is so much at stake in this clash. These two teams have been fierce rivals over recent years and this Saturday will be no different. Terrigal had a very narrow win last week against Kariong, while the Razorbacks are coming off a bye. A win in this clash would give the winning team bragging rights going into the Finals but also considerable breathing space over their rivals. This will be a great game of rugby at The Haven.

In another extremely significant contest is the match at Slade Park between the home team The Lakes and visitors Kariong. This match is almost one of survival. Currently Kariong are placed in fifth spot just two points in front of six placed The Lakes. A loss for either team in this match would make things very difficult in terms of making safe a spot in the Finals this year. There will be much tension during this match at Slade Park on Saturday. The Lakes scored a narrow victory over Gosford last Saturday and they will need to be far more structured if they are to trouble Kariong in this clash. Kariong have now lost three matches in a row and this is a worrying concern for that team. The Lakes are home which is a huge plus for them. This match will be close and will go right down to the wire.

Heazlett Park will host an equally interesting clash on Saturday between Avoca Beach and Warnervale. Avoca Beach are at home which will hold them in good stead in this contest between the 3rd and 4th placed teams. Avoca Beach are holding that vital third position on the competition ladder while Warnervale are close behind them, trying to displace Avoca Beach from their spot. Warnervale have had some great results of late, with wins in their last three matches. However this week they are away from home so it will be interesting how they compete in this very important clash. Avoca Beach has not played for a couple of weeks so they will be so keen to get onto the paddock and to have a game of rugby. Avoca Beach, because of these weeks off, will be freshened up and ready to go but may also be a little underdone. Like the other two matches on display on Saturday, this match is an enthralling one and a clash that will see out the full 80 minutes before a result is decided.

On Saturday, The Bay will have a bye in the President’s Cup competition, while Woy Woy travel to play Hornsby.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition.  There are two matches on offer. Warnervale and Avoca Beach meet at Heazlett Park, while The Lakes can secure a Finals berth with a win over the Kariong/Razorbacks team.
