CENTRALCOAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 16th JULY, 2022
The Swietelsky ‘Match of the Day’ will be the clash at Woongarrah Oval where competition leaders Kariong take on home side Warnervale. This will be a real test for Warnervale as they are playing the top placed team in the competition but they also need the win to stay in touch with all the leading teams. Kariong are playing excellent rugby at present. They are winning matches and playing a good style of rugby. Kariong will be most keen to maintain their present good form and also their present position on the competition table. There are several teams close behind them. Warnervale have not played for quite awhile so they will be keen to get onto the paddock and get back to the form that they showed early in the season. This match will tell us a lot about the prospects of both teams later in the season.
An equally enthralling match will take place at Slade Park where the home side The Lakes takes on Terrigal. There is a real chance that this match will be moved due to the current wet conditions, which is all to the disadvantage of The Lakes. It really has been a tough year for them in regards to their training and matches at home this year. Terrigal will go into this match as slight favourites based on what has happened this year. The Lakes had the bye last week so they will be freshened up and ready to go. They won their match before that bye so they getting back to the right form. Terrigal are also striking excellent form in recent weeks. This all leads to what should be an exciting game of rugby next Saturday.
Avoca Beach will travel to Pennant Hills Oval to take on Hornsby. Avoca Beach will go into this match as favourites despite being away from home. Avoca Beach got back to the winner’s dais last Saturday with a confidence boosting victory over the Razorbacks. Before that, Avoca Beach were struggling in several matches and had suffered a couple of losses. Hornsby have struggled a little recently and are still to hit their right form. They went down to Kariong last week but before that had a good win over Gosford.
Gosford will meet the Razorbacks in the local derby at Ourimbah Rugby Park. These two clubs have a real history and both really do enjoy defeating the other on rugby day. It will be good game of rugby. The Razorbacks have the home ground advantage and this is a huge plus for them. Gosford have steadily improved as the year has progressed and will be keen to build on that again. The Razorbacks suffered a setback last week when defeated by Avoca Beach so they will be keen to get back into the winner’s circle very quickly. This is an interesting matchup but one that more than likely will see a home team victory.
This coming weekend, The Bay Rugby Club meets Woy Woy at Joseph Banks Oval in the Presidents Cup competition on Friday night. This match should attract a pleasing crowd on Friday evening.
The Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition continues next Saturday with all 6 clubs in action. Kariong/Razorbacks meets Warnervale at Woongarrah Oval, Avoca Beach will travel to play Hornsby, and Terrigal meet The Lakes in a match that ranks as ‘Match of the Day’. It is an exciting round of matches.
