PREVIEW (UPDTED 8/07/2022)
SATURDAY, 9th JULY, 2022

We are holding out hope for some rugby to happen on Saturday.

At this stage, we are going to call off all lower grades but we are aiming to play 3 x Premier 1 games at Woongarrah Oval at these times :

3:15pm Hornsby v Kariong

1:50pm Gosford v Terrigal
3:15pm Avoca Beach v Razorbacks

The playing of these games will be determined by the today and also on Saturday morning which is all predicted to be sunny.

All lower grades & women's games will be deemed a 0-0 draw with 2 points allocated on the table. The Lakes still get a forfeit win over Woy Woy in Premier 1 & 2. All Byes get 0 points on the ladder.

The Swietelsky ‘Match of the Day’ will be at Heazlett Park on Saturday when the Razorbacks travel to meet home side Avoca Beach. This is a crucial match for both teams especially Avoca Beach. Avoca Beach were leading the competition a few weeks ago but a couple of recent loses have seen them drop down the ladder They need to win this match to stay in touch with the top of the competition ladder but also to show that their Premiership aspirations are still on track. The Razorbacks have shown some great form in recent weeks and will go into this match as very slight favourites despite the fact that Avoca Beach are at home. This will be a tight struggle from start to finish. Avoca Beach needs to return to their expansive rugby they played at the start of the year and so they will be hoping for a reasonably dry track on Saturday. These two teams are definite Premiership contenders this season so a win for either team will give them much confidence for the later matches in the season.

An equally enthralling match will take place at Headen Park, where Hornsby will play Kariong. This local derby is always a hard fought and intense struggle. Both teams do enjoy defeating the other and Saturday will be no exception. Both teams had pleasing wins in the mud last weekend so both teams are in the right form for this clash. Hornsby has that slight home ground advantage but they are up against the team currently leading the competition. This is Hornsby’s last chance to stay in contention for a Finals spot. Kariong will go into the match as favourites but they do know they are up against a team with the potential to cause some damage on the scoreboard.

Gosford will host Terrigal at Gosford Showground on Saturday in what hopefully will be their first match at this venue for the year. The fact that Gosford have not been at home this year has had a huge impact on the club both on and off the field. But they have stuck to the task all year. These two foundation clubs have always been great rivals and this will also be the situation on Saturday. Terrigal are coming off the bye but they showed in their last clash two weeks against Avoca Beach that they are coming into some great form. Terrigal will be favoured to win this match but Gosford have shown they are up for the battle. They pushed Hornsby all the way last Saturday and will be keen to do the same this coming weekend. But they do have a real uphill battle.

This coming weekend The Bay Rugby Club meets Warnervale at Joseph Banks Oval in the Presidents Cup competition. This competition also sees Woy Woy travelling to Slade Park to take on The Lakes.

The Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition continues next Saturday with all 6 clubs in action. Kariong/Razorbacks travel to Headen Park to play Hornsby, Avoca Beach will host Warnervale at Heazlett Park, and Terrigal meet The Lakes at Gosford Showground. It is an exciting round of matches.
