CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 25th JUNE, 2022
The Swietelsky Central Coast Rugby Union season continues on Saturday with another round of interesting matches.
The ‘Match of the Day’ will be at Heazlett Park on Saturday when Avoca Beach will host Terrigal. This match holds much interest as both teams are playing excellent rugby. This seaside derby has been one of the highlight matches of any season. But this year is extra special because these two teams are near the top of the competition ladder, both clubs are leading the Club Championships, and the Challenge Shield is up for grabs. This is so much expected of the day. Terrigal won this match in the first half of the year but it was the Avoca Beach team who were storming home at the finish of that match and went so close to grabbing victory. Avoca Beach have the home ground advantage this time so the match should attract a huge crowd on this coming Saturday at Avoca. Both teams are evenly matched, and both teams are coming off some pleasing results in recent weeks. However, Terrigal were held to a draw last week against Kariong, while Avoca Beach have not played for two weeks due to the NSW Country Championships 2 weeks ago and having a bye last week. This will be one of the highlight matches of the season and the result will be eagerly sought from everyone involved in rugby on the Coast.
Hornsby will travel to Ourimbah Rugby Park to meet the Razorbacks in what is another very interesting clash. The Razorbacks have not played for two weeks due to the representative matches and a bye, so they will be freshened up and ready to go. They also have the home ground advantage which is a huge plus for them. Hornsby have to win this match. They are coming off a loss last week and it is getting to the stage of the season that wins are coming mandatory if they are to stay in contact with competition leaders. However, they will find this match tough. The Razorbacks have been getting stronger and stronger as the year has progressed so they will prove strong opposition on Saturday. The match will however still be a very hard fought battle.
Warnervale travel to Slade Park on Saturday to take on home side The Lakes. This local derby will be a classic game of rugby and should be even stevens for the entire 80 minutes. Both sides are travelling very well at present and both will go into this match with high hopes of victory. Both teams had resounding victories last Saturday so will be most keen to maintain the momentum at the midway point of this season. The two teams are fierce rivals and really do enjoy getting the win over the other. This derby is one of the highlight matches for the season for these northern clubs and a win ranks very high on the bragging list for both clubs.
This coming weekend The Bay Rugby Club have the bye in President’s Cup.
The Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition continues next Saturday. Saturday will see all teams involved in the action – Avoca Beach will host Terrigal in the top of the table clash at Heazlett Park, the Kariong/Razorbacks will meet Hornsby at home, and The Lakes will meet Warnervale at Slade Park in the local derby.
