The Swietelsky Premier 1 2021 competition is tightening up and positions on the ladder are changing weekly. This coming weekend sees matches which may throw further light on the competition ladder. At present, only 9 competition points on the Premier 1 ladder separate the top 7 teams.

The Match of the Day is the crucial clash at Slade Park between The Lakes and Hornsby. Both of these teams are coming off pleasing victories last Saturday so are obviously in good form leading into this clash. There is so much to play for in this match. Both teams are just below the leading couple of teams on the competition ladder and they know, because the ladder is so bunched, every point is so vital. Both coaches will work hard this week to get their squads primed for this encounter. Both Tristan Jones (Hornsby) and Marshall Hemopo (The Lakes) will be working overtime to prepare for this match. Both teams can score tries from anywhere on the paddock so defence will be the key. The team that plays out the full 80 minutes, that starts strongly and continues to maintain the concentration right to the fulltime whistle, will win this match. The home ground advantage is a plus for The Lakes but Hornsby will be prepared for this. This will be exciting game of rugby, and one that should attract a good crowd.

Woy Woy will host Kariong at Woy Woy Oval in what is a must win game for both teams These two teams have been in great early season form but do need to a win to stay in touch with the leading teams in the competition. Both teams had a loss last Saturday so both know they must try to get this victory this weekend. Both teams are playing well and both teams are scoring points, but both know they must play out the full 80 minutes. Kariong have had two very close losses over the last two Saturdays so will be keen to get out of this pattern of results quickly. Woy Woy however will be a very tough team to overcome. They are at home and at their last home match were victorious over Avoca Beach. These two neighbouring clubs always like to defeat each other and because of the closeness of the competition this year, this matchup will be especially no different. This is a most interesting contest.

Terrigal will travel to meet Warnervale at Woongarrah Oval in a clash that both teams also need to win. Terrigal need to quickly get back into the winner’s circle after losing last week to the Razorbacks, while Warnervale showed last week they cannot be taken lightly. This match will be closer than many people think. Warnervale have troubled all teams this year but have just failed to get that win. Terrigal have had some injury concerns and Warnervale might just take advantage of that. Warnervale are back home and they are always a much stronger team at their home base. On paper one would expect the visitors to get the victory on Saturday but Warnervale will be out to prove everyone wrong.

Avoca Beach and the Razorbacks have the Premier 1 bye this coming Saturday.

Razorbacks 21
Terrigal 19
Kariong 17
Hornsby 17
Avoca Beach 15
The Lakes 14
Woy Woy 12
Warnervale 3

The Bay President’s Cup team will meet the Razorbacks and this match will be played on Friday night at Joseph Banks Oval.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. This weekend will see the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby matches with some great clashes across the Coast. Warnervale host Terrigal, Gosford/Woy Woy play Kariong, and The Lakes meet Hornsby.
