CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 15th MAY, 2021
The Swietelsky Premier 1 season continues next Saturday with some interesting clashes. The competition itself is proving quite even with recent matches showing that there will be several upsets in coming weeks. In fact this Saturday will again see all three clashes close and hard fought.
The ‘Match of the Day’ is the battle at The Haven Oval between Terrigal and Hornsby. This match will be played on Saturday night. Both teams are coming off very pleasing wins last Saturday so both teams are obviously in great form. Terrigal remain undefeated in the competition so will go in to this clash as the slight favourites. They are also at home which is a huge plus for them. However Hornsby have shown over the last couple of weeks that they are getting stronger and stronger and are playing some very controlled rugby. Last Saturday they defeated the Razorbacks and before that they gained a well earnt draw against Kariong. Both clubs have good depth and this may be handy as both teams have received some knocks and bruises over the last few encounters. Terrigal play for the full 80 minutes so if Hornsby is to challenge the home team next Saturday they will have to do the same thing. Newly appointed coach for Hornsby, Tristan Jones, is gradually stamping his style of play on the team and they should benefit from this in the weeks to come. Because the competition is really tightening up, every match is so important so both teams will be competing hard for that vital victory on Saturday.
The Razorbacks will host Kariong at Ourimbah Rugby Park in another clash which will also be another great match next weekend. These two teams have been in great early season form. The Razorbacks have lost their last two games so they will be most keen to get back into the winning circle. They will be pleased to be home at Ourimbah as their two trips away recently have not been successful. With several players out injured, the Razorbacks will be hoping their player depth will come to the fore. Kariong are coming off the bye so will be most keen to get back onto the paddock. They should be freshened up and most keen to get a win. Their last outing saw them draw against Hornsby but it will be a win they will be seeking on Saturday. This is another very close match and the result could go either way.
Woy Woy will return from the bye next Saturday when they host Avoca Beach at Woy Woy Oval. This match will be closer than many people expect. Avoca Beach will be favoured to win this clash based on what has happened over the last few weeks. Avoca Beach is coming off a hard fought loss to Terrigal and will be keen to get back into their winning ways. However Woy Woy will be freshened up and ready to go. Woy Woy have played their last two matches away for a win and a loss but being back at home they will be much stronger and ready to perform. Woy Woy’s only home game so far this year was in Round 1 so they will be keen get back home. Both teams play an attacking open style of rugby so this could prove a high scoring match and one that may go right down to the wire.
The Bay will travel to Slade Park this Saturday to play The Lakes in the President’s Cup clash. This should prove a close tussle and The Bay will be hoping to get their first win of the season.
Warnervale and The Lakes have byes in Premier 1 and 2 this Saturday.
Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. This weekend will see the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will three (3) exciting matches across the Coast this Saturday. The Razorbacks will play Kariong, Terrigal will meet Hornsby, and Avoca Beach travel to Woy Woy Oval to meet Gosford/Woy Woy. All matches should prove close and hard fought.
