CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 1st MAY, 2021
ROUND 4

The 2021 Central Coast Rugby Union season continues next Saturday with three (3) Swietelsky Premier 1 matches. All three matches rate as ‘Match of the Day’ status as all are equally significant. This will be a great round of rugby. All matches are important for differing reasons.

The clash at Mark Taylor Oval sees two teams who are close neighbours and arch rivals. Kariong travel to meet Hornsby in a match that will tell us much about their prospects this season. Kariong are coming off two successive wins, while Hornsby is coming off the bye. Hornsby however will be primed and ready to go. Hornsby have had a win and loss this season so they will be keen to get quickly back into the winner’s circle. This is Hornsby’s first home game and everything will be fully prepared in their effort to secure their second win of the season. Kariong had a tight win over both Warnervale and Avoca Beach in recent weeks but their form shows they will threaten all comers this year. Kariong have a very solid forward pack and also the backs to take advantage of any good ball supplied to them. Also for the first time in several seasons they have quite good player depth which is the key to success over a lengthy rugby season. Hornsby would have been most disappointed with their loss to Avoca Beach two weeks ago but it is certain things would have talked about and sorted out at training over the past two weeks. It all leads to a great game of rugby on Saturday.

Avoca Beach will host the Razorbacks at Heazlett Park in another clash which will also be a cracker of a match next Saturday. Avoca Beach would have been disappointed with their poor start to the match last weekend against Kariong, and of course their ultimate defeat. They will need to overcome the slow start next Saturday against the Razorbacks if they are to threaten. The Razorbacks played exceptional rugby last Saturday and completely outclassed The Lakes side. The Razorbacks took control right from the start of that match and maintained it throughout the entire 80 minutes. If they play like that at Heazlett Park next weekend, Avoca Beach will find things very difficult. However Avoca Beach have had a win at home already this year and are always so much tougher to overcome when at home. This match will be close and it will take quite awhile before one team cements their supremacy in the match.

Woy Woy will travel to Slade Park on Saturday to take on The Lakes in what should be an interesting matchup. This match will be close. Woy Woy have their second lengthy trip away in two weeks but they proved last week this is no impediment to success. They played very well to defeat Warnervale so that result alone shows they are in good form and are a threat this year. On the other hands, The Lakes would be most disappointed in their loss to the Razorbacks last Saturday. The Lakes have had two losses in a row now and they fully realise they must get their first win very soon. But this match will not be an easy to do that. The Lakes are traditionally quite strong at home and they will need to be on Saturday when they take on Woy Woy. On paper one would think The Lakes would sneak home in this one because of the home ground advantage and their record last year, but they are up against a team who have made a huge resurgence this year.

The Bay will play Terrigal White under lights on Friday night in the President’s Cup clash. The match will at Joseph Banks Oval. Terrigal White will go into this match as favourites but The Bay are looking for their first win of the season and will be ready to go. It is the start of a big weekend for the Terrigal White team, who double on Saturday when they play club rivals Terrigal Blue.

Warnervale and Terrigal have byes in Premier 1 and 2 this Saturday.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. This weekend will see the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will three (3) exciting matches across the Coast this Saturday. The Razorbacks will play Avoca Beach, Kariong will travel to Hornsby, and Gosford/Woy Woy will meet The Lakes. All matches should prove close and hard fought. Gosford/ Woy Woy have proved a surprise packet this year and remain undefeated, while Hornsby will be desperate for their first win of the season.
