CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 24th APRIL, 2021
ROUND 3

The 2021 Central Coast Rugby Union season continues next Saturday with some great matches. The round sees three (3) Swietelsky Premier 1 matches. There are a couple of matches that could rate as ‘Match of the Day’ status so this should be a great round of rugby.

The Match of the Day in Round 3 will be the clash at Ourimbah Rugby Park between the Razorbacks and The Lakes. These two teams were not successful last week but were Finalists last year and went late into the Finals Series. The game on Saturday will be a beauty. The Razorbacks were “not successful” last week only because they had the bye so they will be most keen to get back on the paddock after the break. The Razorbacks were most impressive in their first hit out against Woy Woy but they will find this tussle a far tighter concern. The Razorbacks have good players all over the field and there is no real obvious weakness in their team structure. Their forward pack is strong from 1 to No.8 while they have the backs to take advantage of all the good ball that is provided to them. Matt Hopkins will have his team fired up and ready to go. The Lakes were defeated by Terrigal last week but were missing several players. The Lakes will be much better for that run as it was their first real hit out of the year. The Lakes know they must get those early season wins so there is no catch up situation at the rear of the season. This match will be a beauty and will go right down to the wire.

Avoca Beach will travel to Kariong Oval to take on home side Kariong. Both teams were most impressive last week and both recorded very pleasing victories. There is absolutely nothing between these two teams and, like the match described above, the result will not be determined until very close to the 80th minute of proceedings. Avoca Beach showed last week they have the experience and the youth throughout the team to form great combinations. They would have been most pleased to get the win last Saturday especially against Hornsby who were most impressive the week before. Kariong were good against Warnervale in their win but they must play for the entire 80 minutes, Last Saturday they lead quiet handsomely in the clash against Warnervale but did allow Warnervale back into the match. This was due to some excellent Warnervale play but also a drop in effort by the home side.

Woy Woy will travel to Woongarrah Oval to take on Warnervale in what should be an interesting matchup. Both teams have lost all their matches so far this year so both teams will be most keen to get their first win of the season in this clash. Both clubs know you must get these wins early on in the season so this is a great opportunity to do so. Both teams are so evenly matched and it should prove that way next Saturday. Both teams put in sterling performances in all the clashes so far this season and both teams have proved tough, determined and committed. Warnervale are at home which is a plus for them but Woy Woy have the players to trouble the home side.

N.B. This match was originally set down for Woy Woy Oval but the matches between these two teams have been reversed. The match on Saturday is at Woongarrah Oval.

The Bay will travel to Terrigal to meet in the President’s Cup clash at The Haven Oval. Terrigal will go into this match as favourites but The Bay are looking for their first win of the season and will be ready to go.

Hornsby has a bye this Saturday.

Saturday also sees the countenance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. This weekend will see the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will three (3) exciting matches across the Coast this Saturday. Ourimbah will play The Lakes, Kariong will host Avoca Beach, and Woy Woy/Gosford will meet Warnervale. All matches should prove close and hard fought.
