The Premier 1 Grand Final for 2020 is almost upon us. In what has been a very difficult and different year due to the global pandemic, Central Coast Rugby Union is very proud to be conducting the Grand Final on Saturday, after completing a pleasing year in community rugby.

The Premier 1 Grand Final on Saturday will see reigning Premiers, and 2020 Minor Premiers, Terrigal up against The Lakes. This is a most interesting battle. The Lakes last week got home against Ourimbah in a close one, and they will be fully prepared for this clash on Saturday at Central Coast Stadium. Terrigal will go into the match as favourites but in Grand Finals anything can happen. The Lakes have not defeated Terrigal this year in their two clashes but they certainly did make their mark on them in those contests. Terrigal have an effective, well structured team with no obvious weaknesses. They play a very clinical style of rugby. They are up against a team that can show the flair and versatility that can surprise and who can score tries from anywhere on the paddock. Terrigal will be fully aware of this. The Lakes have a good forward pack this year and a backline that can be potentially very dangerous. Terrigal do have that Finals experience. They have been there and done that. They know how to prepare and will be ready on the day. This is Terrigal’s 6th Premier 1 Grand Final in succession and many of their players have been involved in these fixtures. On the other hand, this is The Lakes 2nd only Premier 1 Grand Final in their 46 year history in Central Coast rugby. Interestingly, The Lakes won that 1998 Grand Final at Grahame Park in what was then regarded as a major upset that day. This all makes for a most interesting and enthralling conclusion to this 2020 rugby season

The Premier 2 Grand Final is between Terrigal and The Lakes. This will be another exciting clash on Saturday. These two teams are very evenly matched so this will be another tough and closely contested match. The two teams met in the Major Semi-final two weeks ago and that match went right down to the wire. The Lakes had the lead in that match but it was Terrigal who all but chased them down in the final moments of the match. The Lakes are the reigning Premiers in this grade and will be keen to do it again. Terrigal will have other thoughts about that however.

The President’s Cup Grand Final sees Terrigal meeting Avoca Beach. This seaside derby will bring the best out in both teams. These two teams have not met in the Final Series this year so there is a little bit of the unknown about this match. Both teams will have the experienced players but both also have those up and coming younger players who will make all the difference on Saturday. This will be a hugely competitive match and there will no definite winner in this match until those very final moments.

The Under 19 Colts Grand Final sees The Lakes Maroon team up against Avoca Beach. These two teams have been performing so strongly in the competition this year but it was Avoca Beach who were the convincing winners in their contest in the Major Semi-final. The Lakes Maroon will be very keen to quickly forget that match but they know they are up against a very good Avoca Beach outfit.

The Women’s 10’s Grand Final on Saturday will see another seaside battle when Terrigal meet Avoca Beach. This match could go even way. Both teams had similar wins over Minor Premiers Hornsby over the last two weeks so that fact alone suggests there is not too much between these two very well drilled teams.
