CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 5th SEPTEMBER, 2020
ROUND 8

CCRU

This Saturday is the penultimate round in Central Coast Rugby Union in what has been a shortened rugby season in 2020. The Top 5 in Premier 1 is all but sorted but the actual ranking of these teams within that Top 5 are far from settled. This round, and the final one next week, will decide all that.

The Match of the Day on Saturday will be the top of the table clash between Ourimbah and Terrigal at Ourimbah Rugby Park and this should be a blockbuster. Ourimbah are yet to lose a game this season while Terrigal have had only the one close loss this season. It all makes for an extremely exciting clash and may go a long way to see who takes out the Minor Premiership spot this year and to get that coveted top position on the competition table going into the Final Series. There is absolutely nothing between these two teams. Both had good wins last week so they are coming into this clash in the right type of form. The home ground advantage will be a factor in the match but with so much to play for, the result in this encounter will not be determined until those last few minutes. Both teams have solid forward packs, and also backlines that can cause much damage on the scoreboard. The two teams also have very good goal kickers in Daniel Ford for Ourimbah and Adam Danckert for Terrigal, and this can be a crucial factor in these tight matches. This is a significant clash in terms of the makeup of the Finals Series.

Hornsby travels to Woy Woy Oval to meet Woy Woy in what could also prove an interesting game of rugby. Hornsby have had a great year this year and are in top form at present. They are coming off two great wins recently against Terrigal and Avoca Beach. However Woy Woy last week proved they are getting stronger and stronger and really did push Ourimbah all the way last Saturday. Hornsby will have to be on their guard against a team that cause a surprise. It is Woy Woy’s last game of the season as they have the bye in the final round so coaches Paul Gooley and Mitch Hyde would love nothing less then to finish on a high. This should bring the best out in them. Hornsby will be favourites in this match but it should be a match that will be closer than many people think.

The local derby in the north sees Warnervale at home to The Lakes at Woongarrah Oval in a match which always sees both teams very keen to get the victory. The Lakes have a lot to play for and would see a win as necessary to order to cement a good position in the Final Series. The Lakes are coming off the bye so will be freshened up and ready to go. Warnervale will be keen get home to Woongarrah after their loss last week and also keen to push The Lakes team for the entire 80 minutes. The Lakes will be slightly favoured to get the victory in this encounter but these local derbies often result in a close and hard fought match.

Kariong will host Avoca Beach at Kariong Oval next weekend. Both these two teams are coming off a loss from last week and both will be keen to get quickly back into the winner’s circle. Kariong are yet to get that first win of the season and they know time is running out to do so. Avoca Beach know a win can greatly improve their competition ladder position and thus place themselves well in the Final Series. This is a most exciting clash up on the hill next Saturday.

Women’s 10’s rugby continues next Saturday. There are three games in this weekend and all 3 matches could be close and hard fought. This competition is developing into a very even affair, and there is a definite close run into the Finals.
