CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 29th AUGUST, 2020
ROUND 7

CCRU

The Central Coast Rugby Union season enters the busy part of the season where all matches become crucial in the race to the Finals. It all makes for a most enthralling series of contests this coming weekend.
The Match of the Day will be at Mark Taylor Oval where the home team Hornsby take on Avoca Beach. This is such a crucial match in terms of positions at the Finals Series and both teams will be keen and desperate to win. This match is very much even stevens. Both teams are coming off great wins last weekend – Hornsby defeated the previously undefeated Terrigal while Avoca Beach had a resounding victory over Warnervale last Saturday. Both teams play an expansive style of rugby so there should be plenty of points on offer. It should be a free-flowing match as both teams have very good backs. The home ground advantage may be the only deciding factor in this match but both teams have proved they can win both at home and away. The Challenge Shield is also up for gabs, with Hornsby having wrestled that Shield way from Terrigal last Saturday.

Terrigal will host Warnervale at The Haven Oval next Saturday and the home team will be most keen to get quickly back into the winner’s circle. Terrigal’s loss last week would have hurt and they will be doing everything at training to get back on track as soon as possible. Warnervale will also be most keen to get a win after a disappointing result last Saturday but they do meet a Terrigal side at a bad time. Warnervale know they must win this game if they are to give themselves a remote chance of making the Finals. It should be a good game of rugby but Terrigal will go into the clash as favourites.

Gosford and Kariong meet at Gosford Showground and both these teams will be most keen to get the victory over the other. There is a friendly rivalry between these two clubs. Gosford have only had the one win this season despite playing some very pleasing rugby while Kariong are yet to get that first win. This match will be close and will go right down to the wire. Gosford will see this contest as a great chance to increase their odds of a second win but on the other hand Kariong will definitely see this as a wonderful opportunity to get their first win of the year.

Ourimbah travel to Woy Woy Oval to meet Woy Woy and the visiting team would be favoured to win this clash. However, they will definitely not have it all their own way. Woy Woy at home this year have played well. They do however meet Ourimbah who are one of the main Premiership contenders this year. It is a very tight race at the top of the competition ladder and no team can afford to drop a match. So this makes it very difficult for the Woy Woy team. They would like to put a dent in Ourimbah’s race to the Finals and this is why this clash could prove an interesting tussle at Woy Woy Oval.

Women’s 10’s rugby continues next Saturday. There are three games in this competition and all 3 matches could be close and hard fought. This competition is developing into a very even affair.
