CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 22nd AUGUST, 2020
ROUND 6

CCRU

The Central Coast Rugby season hots up again next weekend when several of the matches will determine where many of the teams will finish up this season. On a Saturday which would have been the final round of the pre-Covid Draw, we are now heading into Round 6.

The Match of the Day is at Slade Park where The Lakes will host Ourimbah in what should prove a mighty clash. Both teams are coming off wins from last weekend and both are in the right form to put in a good performance this coming Saturday. Ourimbah were most convincing in their win over Hornsby yesterday and with their current undefeated form would probably go into this clash as slight favourites. But they are playing The Lakes at home and they are much stronger on their home paddock. The Lakes have only had the one loss this season and although they just defeated Gosford last week, they do go into this match with high hopes. These two teams are only the single point apart on the competition ladder and they both know a victory on Saturday would give them a chance at the Minor Premiership but also go a long way towards securing a Finals berth even at this stage. There is much to play for in this encounter on Saturday.

Another equally interesting clash on Saturday will be the clash between Terrigal and Hornsby at The Haven Oval. It is similar to the match above in that one team, Terrigal, remain undefeated, while the other, Hornsby, have only had the one loss. A win to either team should see them into the Finals but there are still several weeks to go and anything could happen. Terrigal will go into this match as favourites, largely because of their undefeated record so far this season but also because of the home ground advantage. Hornsby will however be a problem for them. The visitors are playing well but need to play for the full 80 minutes if they are to challenge this Terrigal outfit. This will be a good game of rugby and will tell us all about the Premiership prospects of both teams for this year.

The match between Avoca Beach and Warnervale at Heazlett Park is in many ways the most important clash of the weekend. These two teams are currently fighting for that fifth spot so it is such an important match. The winner will get a small break on the other team in this race. This will bring the best out in both teams. Avoca Beach is at home which is a huge advantage for them. They are playing well as was seen in their very effective win last Saturday against Woy Woy. Warnervale are coming off the bye so players should be freshened up, sorted out some injuries and be ready to go. This will prove an exciting match which will go down to those final few minutes.

Gosford will host Woy Woy at Gosford Showground in what is shaping up to be an interesting tussle. There have not been many wins between these two teams this season and both will be keen to get a victory on Saturday. Gosford have played well all year and have pushed all teams but are yet to get that first win. Woy Woy have had the one win but will need to play the full 80 minutes on Saturday if they to get their second victory.

Women’s 10’s rugby continues next Saturday. Avoca Beach and Terrigal would be expected to win their matches on Saturday but they will not have it all their own ways in their respective matches.
