CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 15th AUGUST, 2020
ROUND 5

CCRU

The Central Coast Rugby season reaches the halfway point of this shortened 2020 season with some significant matches on display this coming Saturday.
The Match of the Day in Round 5 will be the clash at Mark Taylor Oval between Hornsby and Ourimbah. This match should prove a beauty. Both teams have won all their matches this season and they are two of the form teams in this competition at present. This match will tell us lot about their respective seasons for the coming weeks. Both teams have strength right across the paddock. They have strong forward packs and backlines that can take real advantage of any good ball they receive. Their respective set pieces are also strong. Hornsby are having their best season since they entered the Central Coast competition. The Hornsby team will rely on their experienced players, players such as Sione Ala, Hosea Fotukava, Leone Naisorotab,
Ivanho Satuala and James McCarthy. However it is their combination right across the board which is their main strength. Ourimbah showed last week that they can grind a win out, and with their combination of youth and experience will be very difficult to defeat. The standout players for Ourimbah this season will need to continue their form in this match and lead from the front - players such as lock Josefa Biu, No.8 Rob Peden, and five-eight Daniel Jones. The home ground advantage will work in Hornsby’s favour and in this match that could be the only difference between these two teams. This will be one of the highlight matches of the season so far.

The Lakes travel to Gosford Rugby Field to meet Gosford. One would think the Lakes would be clear favourites to win this match as they are sitting on 14 competition points and Gosford are to open their account. But it may not be like that. Gosford have played well with no luck recently and have pushed all teams to the limit in their three matches so far this season. As well, Gosford are at home so The Lakes will find this a difficult hurdle. The Lakes will be favourites to win this match but there is a most interesting game of rugby on hand in this clash. Gosford know this is their last chance if they are to make any impact this season. The Lakes have been most impressive this season with only the one loss to Terrigal and several very strong wins. They are playing very exciting rugby at present.

Woy Woy will host Avoca Beach at Woy Woy Oval in another very important contest. Both teams are coming off losses last week, and both teams know they must win this coming Saturday if they are to reach the Finals. Avoca Beach were very much in the match last weekend against Ourimbah and feel they could have got the win then. Woy Woy had a win at their last outing on Woy Woy Oval and would like that to happen again. Avoca Beach will go into this match as favourites but Woy Woy will definitely make it difficult for them.

Kariong are at home to Terrigal at Kariong Oval and they will face a tough battle if they are to get their first win of the season. Kariong are yet to get that first win and meeting Terrigal makes that aim very difficult. Kariong are at home which will help but Terrigal are one of the benchmarks of this year’s season in terms of the Premiership race so they will be hard to overcome. Terrigal are coming off the bye so will be freshened up and ready to go. Kariong always give Terrigal a tough battle at home and they will be hoping to do the same next Saturday. Terrigal will be expected to win this clash but Kariong will be most keen to cause an upset.

Women’s 10’s rugby continues next Saturday. Hornsby and Terrigal would be expected to win their matches on Saturday while the ‘match of the day’ would be the clash at Woy Woy Oval between the home side and Avoca Beach.
