ROUND 3

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION

The Match of the Day in Round 3 will be the clash at The Haven Oval between Terrigal and The Lakes. Both teams are coming off wins in the first two rounds of the competition so have been the two form teams in the competition so far. Terrigal has had two comfortable victories while The Lakes had a big win and a close one. It all makes for an extremely exciting game of rugby on Saturday. Both teams have strengths rights across the paddock. The Lakes’ pack of forwards has been strong this year but they will be fully tested this Saturday by the established Terrigal pack of forwards. Both teams have pace and flair in their respective backlines so quite a few five pointers should be on offer. Terrigal do have the home ground advantage and that could prove the only difference between these two teams. Terrigal will go into the contest as the favourites but the form of these two teams over the last two weeks does show anything could happen.

Hornsby travel to Woongarrah Oval to meet the home side Warnervale in a match that will tell us much about the Finals prospects of both teams this year. Both teams are coming off good wins last week so they go into the match with the right type of form. Hornsby had a big win last Saturday and they showed they have the ability to post points from anywhere on the field. This match will be a test for them as Warnervale showed they are a determined squad of forwards and backs and can grind out the entire 80 minutes. Warnervale have had a close loss and a close win this year but always are that little bit stronger at home. Hornsby may go into this match as slight favourites simply based on the size of their victory last week and how they achieved it. This is a most interesting game of rugby coming up on Saturday.

Gosford and Ourimbah do battle at Gosford Showground Field in what should also prove an interesting matchup. Gosford proved last week that will trouble all teams this year when they pushed Terrigal for the first 60 minutes before fading late in that match. Ourimbah are coming off the bye so they will be ready to go. Ourimbah had a pleasing win in Round 1 so will be keen to keep those victories coming. There is always a real rivalry between these clubs and it will be no different this weekend. Gosford know they need to get their first win of the season while Ourimbah will be most keen to avenge their surprise loss to Gosford in last year’s Preliminary Final. There is much to be gained by a victory for both teams in the game next Saturday.

Woy Woy are at home to Kariong on Saturday in what is essentially another local derby. Both teams have not had the start to the season they would have hoped for with two losses on the board so at least one of the two teams will get their first win on Saturday. Kariong had a tough day last Saturday when Hornsby proved too good for them while Woy Woy showed they will get stronger when they really did make Warnervale earn their stripes last Saturday. The home ground advantage may be the only difference also in this match but both teams know they have a lot to play for in this encounter.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. Woy Woy will host Kariong while Hornsby travels to Warnervale to do battle.
