CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION (UPDATED)
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 25th JULY, 2020
ROUND 2

The Match of the Day in Round 2 will be the clash at Slade Park between The Lakes and Avoca Beach. The Lakes were most impressive last Saturday in their win over Kariong so will go into this week’s clash with huge confidence. The Lakes did win easily but would be a little concerned by allowing Kariong to post some four tries in the second half against them. Avoca Beach are coming off a bye so little is known about their team structure. We do know that the Avoca Beach team will be raring to go having had to sit out last week. The Lakes are always strong at home but Avoca Beach coach, Justin Staben, will have his troops fired up for this clash. Avoca Beach missed the Finals last year and they will be most keen to get off to a good start to their season to give themselves a chance to go one better than last year and to make the Finals this year. This will be a close tussle from start to finish on Saturday and should prove an entertaining game of rugby.

Hornsby also kick off their season when they host Kariong at Mark Taylor Oval in Round 2. These two neighbouring teams will be most keen to get their first victory of the season. Hornsby are like Avoca Beach and coming off a bye, little is also known of the structure of their team from Saturday. From all reports the team has trained well and are strengthened for this year. The Hornsby coach, Chip Carroll, is in his second year with the club and will have squad fully prepared for this clash. Kariong will take a lot of heart from their second half performance last Saturday. Although defeated by The Lakes, the Kariong team put in a far better effort in the final 40 minutes and they proved to themselves that they can score tries. This will be another close match up next Saturday and both teams will be most keen to get that first win.

Woy Woy travel to Woongarrah Oval to take on the home team Warnervale. Woy Woy had a tough day at the office last Saturday and will not find Warnervale any easier. Woy Woy will be stronger for their efforts last Saturday and will be most keen to put in a far greater effort next Saturday. Warnervale went close to victory last Saturday against Ourimbah but still need to get that first victory of the season. Like the two matches described above, this encounter should be a close struggle from start to finish.

UPDATE :
Gosford travel to The Haven Oval to take in Terrigal in Premier1. A decision by the Gosford Rugby Club last night saw Gosford re-enter the Premier 1 competition. They do play the reigning Premiers Terrigal in their first match. It will be a very tough encounter especially considering Terrigal last week easily accounted for Woy Woy in the opening round. Gosford will be committed on Saturday and will put in a great effort. Clashes between these two foundation clubs have always been one of the highlight matches of any season. It is very pleasing to see Gosford stay in Premier 1.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. Warnervale will host Woy Woy while Kariong travel to Hornsby to do battle.
