ROUND 14

The round of matches this Saturday are so crucial in the overall situation of the competition in terms of this year’s Finals Series. There are two matches in particular that will tell us a lot about the makeup of the semi-final series in 6 weeks time. The final five rounds are all totally important but two matches this weekend are of particular note.

The Match of the Day is at Gosford Showground when Gosford take on visitors Terrigal. These two teams are placed second and third on the competition ladder so a win to either team on Saturday will see them take second spot. It is such a crucial encounter. Both teams have been playing very good rugby of late and both will be confident of victory. Gosford have the home ground advantage but currently it is Terrigal who are in second spot on the ladder so will more than likely go into this clash as very slight favourites. Terrigal were magnificent last week when they piled on the points against Warnervale and if they put that type of form on display again they will be very difficult to overcome. This should be a very intense, close and exciting game of rugby on Saturday and should attract a big crowd. The match also features the wonderful milestone for Gosford player Adam Carlisle who will run out for his 300th Premier 1 match – a magnificent effort for a player who has done this with the one club. This fact alone will lift the hopes of the Gosford team and will already add to his team’s already home ground advantage. This all makes for a great game of rugby on Saturday.

The match at Heazlett Park on Saturday between Avoca Beach and The Lakes is equally significant. If anything, for these two teams, it is more than significant. These two teams are only separated by the single point in the race for fourth spot on the competition ladder. One of these two teams will finish the season in fourth spot and one will miss out on the Finals so this clash at Heazlett Park is so important. Currently Avoca Beach is in fourth position. There is nothing between these two sides. Both are playing good rugby of late and have gained some very important wins in recent weeks. Avoca Beach had a good win over Hornsby last Saturday while The Lakes in their last clash had a really good win over Woy Woy. The Lakes are coming off the bye so will be freshened up for this game but they do meet Avoca Beach at home and Avoca Beach are always very difficult to defeat at Heazlett Park. The result of this match will be sought with huge interest.

Kariong are at home to Hornsby at Kariong Oval in the local derby. This match will also be very close. Both teams are coming off a loss last week so both will be most keen to get a victory in this particular game. Both teams have had some ups and downs this season but both teams can play match winning rugby. It is most difficult to choose a winner in this clash and the result will not be known until the final moments of this clash on Saturday. Probably Finals’ chances for both two teams has gone but both would like to finish the season on a high and would very much like to win more matches than they lose over the next five weeks. They would like to start that winning streak on Saturday. This should prove a high scoring match and should prove a spectacular one for the crowd on hand.

Warnervale travel to Woy Woy Oval this Saturday to take on home team Woy Woy. Both these teams suffered big losses last week - Woy Woy at the hands of Ourimbah and Warnervale at the hands of Terrigal. Both teams will want to quickly get over those results and both teams will see this Saturday’s clash as a great chance to get quickly back onto the winner’s dais. There is absolutely nothing between these two teams. Woy Woy are at home which is a huge advantage but the result will simply come down to the team who is the more committed on the day.

The Entrance President’s Cup team are at home to Ourimbah this Saturday. There is a lot of history between these two clubs and both teams will be most keen to defeat the other on Saturday.

The women’s competition has produced some great rugby in recent weeks. Avoca Beach and Woy Woy would be favoured to win their respective matches, while the clash at Kariong Oval between the Kariong women and Hornsby will be the most interesting.
