CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 6th JULY, 2019
The Central Coast Rugby Union competition is hotting up as the season progresses well past the halfway point. Teams will be keen to play well from now on, to get those necessary wins and to try to make the Finals Series in 2019.
The Match of the Day this Saturday is the match at Heazlett Park where Avoca Beach will host Ourimbah. These two teams had good wins last Saturday and will be keen to continue that form this coming weekend. Avoca Beach, because of that win, got themselves back into the Top four so will be very keen to stay there. It will not be easy however. They are meeting Ourimbah who have taken all before them this year so far. They have won all their fixtures and the huge majority of these wins have been quite easy. Avoca Beach knows there are teams placed just behind them on the competition ladder so a good performance, and a win, would be huge bonus for them this Saturday. Avoca Beach coach Justin Staben will have his team fired up and ready to go, but also will Brett Marchant at Ourimbah. Ourimbah will go into this match as firm favourites because of their great form this season but Avoca Beach, at Heazlett, are always a threat.
The Lakes travel to Woy Woy Oval to meet Woy Woy in a must win match for them. The Lakes dropped out of the Top Four last week and they know if they are to stay in touch with the competition leaders they must get quickly back onto the winner’s dais. The Lakes did not play well last Saturday against Gosford and they would be most disappointed with their effort. They were never in that match and if they play like that again Woy Woy will get the win. It is very difficult to follow the form of Woy Woy this year. They have had some pleasing efforts during the year but there have been too many occasions where they have allowed the opposing team to take control too easily. This match will be evenly fought and both teams are quite capable of getting the win. The Lakes probably have more to play for but with Woy Woy at home, this game could go either way.
Warnervale are at home to Kariong on Saturday at Woongarrah Oval. Both these teams desperately need to win this clash. They both still theoretically have a chance to reach the Finals but they must win almost everything from here on in until the end of the season. Warnervale are coming off the bye, so will be freshened up, and they are also at home. So everything is in their favour this Saturday. Kariong played well in their loss to Terrigal last Saturday night and this type of form should hold them in good stead this coming Saturday if they can repeat that type of form. It is certainly another very difficult match in which to choose a winner. Most would feel the result will not be determined until those very final minutes of play in this match. There are quite a few games like that this coming Saturday.
Gosford will host Hornsby on Saturday at Gosford Showground. Based on the performances from the two teams last Saturday, one can only see a Gosford victory. They were strong against The Lakes last weekend and completely blotted The Lakes team out of the match. Hornsby, on the other hand, was never in the race against Ourimbah and lost that contest quite convincingly. However this is a different day and a different match. Both teams have displayed the ability to get a win but it will be Gosford who will go into the match as clear favourites.
The Entrance President’s Cup team will travel to The Haven Oval this Saturday to take on Terrigal. This will be an awkward match for the visitors but one they just need to win if they to reach the Finals.
The women’s competition continues on. Terrigal, Avoca Beach, Woy Woy and Hornsby are currently in the Top Four and the other teams will be trying to overtake them in the coming weeks. The key matches this Saturday will see The Lakes take on Woy Woy, and Avoca Beach playing Ourimbah.
