CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY, 22nd JUNE, 2019
Saturday sees some exciting matches in Central Coast Rugby Union. In fact all 4 matches hold considerable interest for varying reasons. There are certainly some exciting matchups with teams, who are currently out of the Top Four, playing some great rugby and who will push the leading teams all the way in their matches this weekend.
The Match of the Day sees Ourimbah at home to The Lakes at Ourimbah Rugby Park. These two days are currently placed in the Top Four. Ourimbah are continuing on their winning way and are playing some pleasing rugby. They were pushed by Gosford last week early on but the second half saw the Ourimbah team storm home. The Lakes troubled Terrigal all day last Saturday and would even consider themselves a little unlucky in losing such a tight contest. It gets no easier for The Lakes this Saturday but they proved last week they can compete very well with the competition’s leading teams. This match will be close but it is hard to see Ourimbah losing. The Lakes do know how to score tries and they proved last Saturday against Terrigal that their defence has really tightened up. However The Lakes, currently in fourth spot, know they have teams challenging from behind so they must continue to get the right results to stay there.
An equally enthralling match will be the match at Mark Taylor Oval between Hornsby and Terrigal. Hornsby has had two wins on the trot lately and have been playing some very good rugby. Coach Chip Carroll has got the Hornsby team firing on all cylinders at present and the improvement in the team had been most noticeable. Terrigal put a huge win on Hornsby in the first match of the season but it is very unlikely that that would happen again. In fact Hornsby will be full of confidence and would very like to cause an upset. It will be difficult as Terrigal are in second position on the ladder and have shown good consistent form in recent weeks. This should prove a very interesting game of rugby.
Woy Woy will host Gosford at Woy Woy Oval on Saturday. Gosford are coming off a loss while Woy Woy recorded their first win of the season last weekend. Not only did Woy Woy record their first win but they played well and deserved the victory. Coach Luke Ingold will be most keen to continue that winning streak on Saturday. Woy Woy are at home which is a plus for them. Gosford will need to regroup after last Saturday’s loss. They played very well in the first half last Saturday but they know they must play like that for the whole 80 minutes if they are to secure a Finals berth at the end of the year. Coach Adam Beavis would have worked hard this week at training to endure they are fully prepared for this contest.
The clash between Warnervale and Avoca Beach at Woongarrah Oval is such an important clash for both teams. Both teams need a win if they are to chase down the leading four teams in the competition. On their day both teams are quite capable of playing very good, structured rugby and can overcome all teams in the competition. Warnervale would be very disappointed with their loss last week and will be most keen to turn that around quickly this Saturday. Avoca Beach is coming off the bye so will be raring to go. There was nothing between these two sides in the first game of the season and it should be much the same situation this Saturday.
The Entrance President’s Cup team travels to Kariong Oval this Saturday to take on Kariong in a must win match for the visitors.
The women’s competition is heating up. Terrigal, Avoca Beach, Woy Woy and Hornsby are currently in the Top Four and the other teams will be trying to overtake them in the coming weeks.
