Central Coast Rugby Union

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 15th JUNE, 2019
ROUND 9

This Saturday see the resumption of Central Coast Rugby Union after the break for the NSW Country Championships in Tamworth. Most clubs would have appreciated the mid-season break but it is back to action this coming weekend. This round sees the competition reach the halfway point of the season so teams will be realising that things must happen if they are to make the Final Series this year. All matches this Saturday are significant.

The Match of the Day sees Gosford travel to Ourimbah for an important clash at Ourimbah Rugby Park. Ourimbah are currently leading the competition and remain undefeated. They have become one of the bench marks for most opposition teams this season. This also brings about the situation that all teams are trying to defeat them. Ourimbah in this match will have the advantage of their success so far this season but will also have that vital home ground advantage. Gosford know they must keep wining to stay in the top echelon of the competition as there are teams behind them keen to displace them. Gosford have had a very good season. They have had only the one loss this season so they will be a distinct threat for Ourimbah. Gosford are coming off a bye before the Long Weekend so will be freshened up after the 2 week break. On the other hand, many of the Ourimbah players had a tough last round match against Terrigal 2 weeks ago and many of their players played representative rugby last weekend. This will be a good game of rugby and will tell us much about the prospects of both teams for later in the season.

Terrigal and The Lakes meet at The Haven Oval in a match which also holds considerable interest. Both teams have had good seasons. Despite the loss last week, Terrigal have played exceptional rugby all season and have had only the one loss, that being in the last round against Ourimbah. The Lakes are on a winning streak. They have now won 3 matches in succession, and had lost several close ones just before that, and would very like to cause an upset on Saturday and continue that winning streak. It will be tough however for them as Terrigal are at home and they will also be most keen to get back to their winning ways after their last round loss. This will tell us a lot about the future of The Lakes in terms of the Final Series. They are currently in fourth spot on the ladder and would very much like to stay there. They will need to keep getting the results they desire if they are to remain there. Once again, with Terrigal at home, the Challenge Shield is also up for grabs in this match.

Hornsby and Warnervale meet at Mark Taylor Oval. These two teams were in tremendous form in their last hit outs Hornsby had a pleasing win over Woy Woy to record their first win of the year while Warnervale played very good rugby to gain a draw with The Lakes in a match they could have won. So both teams will go into this clash with confidence. There is absolutely nothing between these two teams and both will be keen to keep this successful feeling going. The only difference may be the home ground advantage for Hornsby but this match will go right down to the wire.

Kariong are at home to Woy Woy at Kariong Oval. This will be an interesting battle between these two neighbouring clubs. There is never too much between these two teams. At the moment Kariong are still struggling to get into the Top Four and after their good win over Avoca Beach last round they would feel they could achieve that with more successive wins. Woy Woy are yet to win a match this year but must be very close to doing that. They would realise Saturday maybe their chance to do that. This is another possibly very close encounter in a round which sees all matches very open. It is a great series of rugby matches this coming Saturday.

The Entrance President’s Cup team travel to Heazlett Park this Saturday to take on Avoca Beach in a match that is so important in terms of the Finals. Both teams will be desperate for a win.

This Saturday also sees all the resumption of the women’s competition. All teams have a competitive chance of make the Finals but a win this Saturday for these teams will make that task a little easier.
