CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
SATURDAY,19th JUNE, 2021
The second half of the Swietelsky Premier 1 2021 competitioncontinues next Saturday. In the runto the Finals, every match will prove so important.
The‘Match of the Day’ on Saturday is the crucial clash at Kariong Oval between Kariong andTerrigal. These two teams are placed at the top of the competition ladder;Terrigal at the top and Kariong in thirdposition. So, it is such an important clash. Terrigal would be most keen to stay in their current position, while Kariong know that there are several teams looming just below them on the ladder. Kariong are at home so that is a plus for them. The other plus is that Terrigal supplied many players to the CentralCoastrepresentativethat competed in Tamworth last weekend. That was a gruellingweekend of rugby and many players may feel the effectsof that experiencein this contest. However, all players will rise to the occasion. Terrigal won theirfirst round clash between these two teams earlier in the year but there was very little in that match. Both teams are having very pleasingseasons, and their standard of rugby shouldattract a good crowd on Saturday. Coach’sMaxMalkin(Kariong) and MichaelFarrelly (Terrigal) will havetheir respectiveteams fully charged and prepared for this weekend’s clash.
Woy Woy will travel to Ourimbah Rugby Parkto meet cross town rivals The Razorbacks. This should prove to be an interestinggame of rugby. Most pundits would think the Razorbacks would win this clash but this game will bemuchcloser than what many people think. The Razorbacks are sitting in second spot on the competition ladder and will be keen to stay there or even to improve that position, but Woy Woy will have other ideas. Woy Woy are out of the Top Five at present but would still see themselvesas a chance to make the Finals this year. They are playing good rugby. They pushed Terrigal to thelimit in their last encounter and in fact led that match into the second half. They are a dangerous team and will cause problems to all teams in the second half of the competition. The Razorbacks, like Terrigal, contributed many players to the Central Coastrepresentative team, so some of them may be a littleflatafter their three tough games in Tamworth last weekend. It all makes for an enthrallingclash on Saturday.
Hornsby will hostWarnervale at Mark Taylor Oval in a contest thatthe home aside should win. However, Hornsby have much to lose in this clash. Theyarecurrently sitting in fourth position on the ladder but face a team who, like Woy Woyjust described in the previous match report, can cause damage in his competition. Like the match described above, one would think the Razorbacks would win this match but Warnervaleare the type of the team that can provide an upsetresult. Warnervale are yet to win a match this season but have troubled all teamsandwill be desperate to start the secondhalf of thisyear’s competition with theirfirstvictory.Hornsby are alwaysstrong at home and will be favoured to win but Warnervale have the team to make things difficult. Witha break last weekend, several players will be returning from injury, and both teamswill be freshenedup and ready to go.
CURRENT PREMIER 1 POINTS TABLE…………………….
The Bay will travel to Heazlett Park this Saturday to play Avoca Beach in the President’s Cup clash. This should prove a close tussle and The Bay will be hoping to get another win for this year.
The Lakes and Avoca Beach have byes in Premier 1 and 2 this Saturday.
Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. This weekend will see the clubs continue with 10-a-side rugby and there will three (3) exciting matches across the Coast this Saturday. The Razorbacks will play Gosford/Woy Woy at home, Terrigal will meet Kariong at Kariong, and Warnervale will travel south to meet Hornsby. All matches should prove close and hard fought
