CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 27 th MAY, 2023

ROUND 7
The Match of the Day in Central Coast Rugby Union this coming Saturday sees the clash at Woongarrah Oval between home team Warnervale and visitors Avoca Beach. This should be a close struggle and one that attracts huge interest. Both teams were excellent winners last Saturday and both teams are in pleasing form. Warnervale are strong at home and do have that advantage this weekend but they are up against a team who are still undefeated this season. Avoca Beach had a resounding victory last week against Gosford and displayed great form in that match. If they take that form into this clash, Warnervale will have a real battle on their hands. However, Warnervale were also very good last week against The Lakes. This all makes for an exciting game of rugby next weekend.

Terrigal will host Gosford at The Haven Oval in what is another enthralling game of rugby. Terrigal will go into this match as distinct favourites, as they remain unbeaten this year and they are at home. They are playing very effective rugby at the moment. Gosford, despite losses in the last two weeks, have generally had a quite good start to the season. They would however been most disappointed with last week’s effort at Avoca, and will be keen to get back to a winning formula next Saturday. Gosford do have the team to trouble Terrigal but they will have to be at their very best for the entire 80 minutes. These two traditional rivals should put on a great rugby display next Saturday.

Woy Woy will host The Lakes at Woy Woy Oval in another interesting clash. This is such an important game for both teams. The Lakes are yet to get that important initial victory while Woy Woy have only had the one win this year so far and they
have been impossible to predict week by week. They had a big win two weeks ago but then were put to the sword last week against Terrigal. The result of this match will depend entirely on what players are available to take the paddock. Both teams will be so keen to get a victory so they can get their season going on a more positive note.

Hornsby will travel to Walters Park, Boolaroo to take on Lake Macquarie in a crucial match for both teams. This match is very similar to the match described above. Hornsby have only had the one won this season while Lake Macquarie are yet to get that first win. So, like the match described above, both teams will be keen to get their season going and will attempt to secure a very necessary victory. Lake Macquarie are at home and are coming off the bye, so they will be freshened up and ready to go. Hornsby will go into the match as favourites, but are up against a team who will be so keen to get their first win of the season.

In President’s Cup, the Bay Rugby Club meets the Razorbacks at Joseph Banks Oval, while Gosford/Kariong travels to take on Terrigal, and Warnervale is at home to Avoca Beach.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. There are three exciting matches this coming Saturday – Warnervale will host Avoca Beach at Woongarrah Oval, The Lakes meets Woy Woy at Woy Woy Oval, and Hornsby will take on the Razorbacks at Boolaroo.

ROUND 6

The Match of the Day in Central Coast Rugby Union this coming Saturday sees the clash at Heazlett Park between home team Avoca Beach and visitors Gosford. This should be a close struggle throughout. Avoca Beach are currently undefeated and have been playing excellent rugby. They are coming off the bye but prior to that they had recorded some most impressive victories. They are also especially strong at home so will go into this clash very hopeful of maintaining their undefeated run. Gosford have also been playing extremely well of late and only lost their first match last Saturday in a close loss to the Razorbacks. They will be keen to hit back quickly and get back that winning feeling. It all adds up to a most exciting contest and should attract a pleasing crowd at Avoca.

Terrigal will host Woy at The Haven Oval in what is another interesting game of rugby. It contains quite a few unknowns. Woy Woy have been very inconsistent with some big losses but also a very impressive and big win last Saturday. So, a lot will depend on what Woy Woy teams goes onto the paddock. Terrigal are taking all before them and remain undefeated and they will be seeking to continue it on Saturday. Terrigal have a good all-round team with no obvious weaknesses so Woy Woy will have to be at their very best to make the match competitive. Terrigal are at home which makes them all the stronger.

Warnervale will host The Lakes at Woongarrah Oval in another exciting clash. This is such an important game for both teams. This local derby always brings out the best in both teams so even though The Lakes are yet to record a win, Warnervale will have to be most careful with them. The Lakes would love nothing better than to get their first victory of the season against their local neighbour. It will be a close clash but with Warnervale recording some impressive performances recently, and also being at home, they will go into the match as slight favourites.

Hornsby will meet the Razorbacks at Mark Taylor Oval in a crucial match for both teams but especially the home side. The Razorbacks hit good form last Saturday in their win over Gosford and will be confident of maintaining that winning feeling this weekend. However, they are up against Hornsby who are at home, and who need to get a win to remain in touch with those leading teams. It all makes for a most enthralling clash between these two teams.

In President’s Cup, the Bay Rugby Club meets Terrigal at The Haven Oval, while Gosford/Kariong meets Avoca Beach at Heazlett Park.

ROUND 5

The Match of the Day in Central Coast Rugby Union this coming Saturday sees the clash at Gosford Rugby Field (at the Gosford Showground) between home team Gosford and visitors the Razorbacks. This should be a close struggle throughout. Gosford are currently undefeated with three pleasing victories so will go into this match full of confidence. They have taken all before them so far this season. However they are up against a Razorback team that have defeated Gosford on most occasions in recent years and who had a big win last Saturday. This will be a tight contest. The two teams are placed near the top of the competition ladder and both will be keen to stay there after Saturday. Both teams know how to post points so it should be a quite high scoring fixture. Both teams have a number of former Kariong players so this should also add to the interest in the match, just to see how they confront each other on the day. It is a big day at the Showground with four senior fixtures being played and the two Premier 1 teams competing for the Thomson-Brown Shield.

Terrigal travel to Slade Park to take on home side The Lakes in what should also be an enthralling encounter. We have in this match a team who is undefeated while the other is still to get a victory. Terrigal are currently the form team in the competition and will go into this clash as favourites. The Lakes are at home however and are desperate for a win. They have played well this year but that first victory just eludes that. They know they must get that win very soon and they will be seeking to it on Saturday. Terrigal have a good all round team with no obvious weaknesses so The Lakes will have to be at their very best to get a win.

Warnervale will host Hornsby at Woongarrah Oval in another exciting clash. This is such an important game for both teams. They both want to stay in contact with the leading teams on the competition ladder. Warnervale are coming off a loss to Terrigal while Hornsby had the bye last Saturday. Warnervale played well against Terrigal and want that form to continue at home this coming weekend. Hornsby have had one victory this season so will be most keen to keep that form going this weekend. This will be a close contest but maybe the home ground advantage will prove the only difference.

Woy Woy is at home to Lake Macquarie at Woy Woy Oval in what is another match that will create huge interest. Both teams have had really tough starts to the competition this year. Both teams are yet to record a win so this is obviously a great opportunity to get that first victory. Woy Woy were most disappointing last Saturday but they will be hoping to regroup for this contest. Lake Macquarie have had an even worse start to the year but will also be hoping this match could see a turnaround in fortunes. They also will be hoping for a better performance this coming Saturday. It will be an interesting day at Woy Woy Oval.

In President’s Cup, the Bay Rugby Club meets Avoca Beach at home while Gosford/Kariong meets the Razorbacks at the Showground. Warnervale will host Terrigal at home.

ROUND 4

The Match of the Day in Central Coast Rugby Union this coming Saturday sees the clash at The Haven Oval between home team Terrigal and visitors Warnervale. This should be a close struggle throughout. Terrigal are currently undefeated with two very big victories so will go into this match full of confidence. They have taken all before them so far this season. They had a wonderful last week against frontrunners the Razorbacks so will go into this week’s clash as favourites. However they are up against a team that are also undefeated. Warnervale are coming off the bye so will be ready to go. Warnervale have had two pleasing wins before the bye but this week will be a further test for them. They know they are up against the reigning Premiers and they also know Terrigal have shown great form in recent weeks and are also at home. However Warnervale coach Mat Piukala will have his troops primed for this match.

Gosford travel to Slade Park to take on home side The Lakes in what should be an enthralling encounter. Gosford are coming an extremely narrow win last Saturday when they kicked a winning penalty goal after fulltime. Gosford, like The Lakes, are still settling on their best combinations with many new faces in their respective squads. Both teams will improve as the season progresses. The Lakes have had three very close matches this year and have definitely been in the picture in all three contests. They will be most keen to get their first win of the season, especially being at home. It is very difficult to choose a winner in this clash and the match will go right down to the wire.

Woy Woy is at home to Avoca Beach at Woy Woy Oval in what is another match that will create huge interest. Avoca Beach is also undefeated this season and would like to remain like that after this game. However Woy Woy have been a real threat in all their matches this season. They have come so close to victory in each one of them. Being at home this coming Saturday will make them even more confident of getting that vital first win. They know they are up against a strong Avoca Beach team who have taken control in all their matches this year. So we have one team who has not lost a match this season up against another who have not had a win. However many pundits still think this match will be close. Woy Woy were so unlucky not to win last week and will be so keen to reverse their fortunes this coming Saturday. It will be an interesting day at Woy Woy Oval.

Lake Macquarie will host the Razorbacks at Walters Park, Boolaroo in a game which both teams will be most keen to win. Lake Macquarie will be excited to be back home this Saturday as they have had two tough trips away over the last two weekends. They will be pleased to be home and hopefully to strengthen up in this contest. However they meet a Razorbacks team who would not to be too happy about their loss last Saturday and will be most keen to hit back this Saturday. The Razorback Coaches, Nick Meyer and Clint Guyatt, will work hard this week to get their team ready for this match. The Razorbacks will be go into this clash as favourites but Lake Macquarie will be most keen to put in a good performance and they will hoping to cause an upset.

In President’s Cup, the Bay Rugby Club meets the Razorbacks at Boolaroo while Gosford/Kariong and Avoca Beach have the bye. Warnervale travel to The Haven Oval to meet Terrigal.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. There are three matches this coming Saturday – Warnervale travel to The Haven Oval to play Terrigal, The Lakes host the Razorbacks at home, and Woy Woy are at home to Avoca Beach at Woy Woy Oval.

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 29th APRIL, 2023

ROUND 3
The 2023 Central Coast Rugby Union season continues next Saturday. There arefour (4) Swietelsky Premier 1 matches, and all teams know those vital winsare becoming increasingly needed.

The Match of the Day in Round 1will be the clash at Ourimbah Rugby Park between home team the Razorbacks and visitors Terrigal. This should be a titanic struggle. Both teams are undefeated and the contest should draw a huge crowd to Ourimbah Rugby Park next Saturday... These teams are rated as the early Premiership favourites, although other clubs would have something to say about that. However Terrigal are the current Premiers and the Razorbacks are currently leading the competition this year. So there is so much to play for and the contest will tell us a lotabout the prospects of both teams. The Razorbacks have had two tough games thisyear so they will be far better prepared for this clash. Terrigal have only had the onegame this season and that was a very easy result for them. So in terms of those factorsthings do appear to be in favour of the home team. They also have the home groundadvantage. The game will be a beauty so it will go right down to the wire. It is still sohard to choose a winner in this match.

Gosford Rugby Field at the Gosford Showground will see a most interesting clash between Gosford and Woy Woy. Gosford are coming off the bye so will be freshened up. They also had a most pleasing win on the first round against Hornsby sothey will be most keen to maintain that winning feeling. Woy Woy have lost both their matches this year but both have been very close and hard fight. They had their chances for victory in both these contests. So this clash will be close and the home ground advantage for Gosford may be the only distinguishing feature. This match will go right down to the wire.

The Lakes and Hornsby meet at Mark Taylor Oval in what should prove an exciting clash. Both teams had losses in both Rounds 1 and 2 and are desperate for a first up victory. These two teams will see this contest as a great to get that victory. Both teams have shown some patches of good form but both teams know a win is so vital. The two teams are still experimenting with their line-ups and the further this season goes, both these teams will get stronger and stronger. Hornsby are at home which is a real plus however this match, like the two described above, could go eitherway.

Lake Macquarie make the trek away from home again this week when they travel to Heazlett Park to take on Avoca Beach. This will be another tough contest for them. They will be hoping for a much improved performance this week but they will find Avoca Beach no easier. In a difficult start to the year lake Macquarie have had to make two lengthy away trips in a row. Avoca Beach showed good form last Saturday to account for Hornsby. They have had two great victories to start their season and they are home again this weekend. So everything looks in their favour in this contest. Lake Macquarie have had the two losses so far this year and is stilll ooking for their first victory.

In President’s Cup, the Bay Rugby Club and Gosford/Kariong meet each other at Gosford Rugby Field on Saturday. Also, Warnervale travel to Heazlett Park to meet Avoca Beach, while Terrigal and the Razorbacks meet at OurimbahRugby Park.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. There are three matches this coming Saturday – Warnervale travel to Gosford Rugby Field to play Woy Woy, Razorbacks host Terrigal at home,
