CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION
PREVIEW
SATURDAY, 3 rd JUNE, 2023

ROUND 8
The Match of the Day in Central Coast Rugby Union will see the Razorbacks at home to Avoca Beach at Ourimbah Rugby Park. This promises to be an enthralling contest. Avoca Beach have gone through the season undefeated but are up against a team who, in recent weeks, have taken all before them. Both teams have high hopes of Premiership honours so this match will tell us much about their prospects in that area for this year. The Razorbacks have the home ground advantage which is a huge plus for them but they still know they must perform well for the entire 80 minutes if they are to keep Avoca Beach at bay. Avoca Beach has had some great wins of late against leading teams, having defeated both Gosford and Warnervale over the two Saturdays. Their win last Saturday was most impressive. The Razorbacks are coming off the bye so they will be freshened up and keen to go. These two teams are second and third on the competition ladder so a victory on Saturday to either team would further cement their leading position on the ladder. It all makes for a great game of rugby this coming weekend.

Terrigal will travel to Mark Taylor Oval to take on Hornsby in another interesting clash. Both these teams are coming off great wins last Saturday so both will be keen to maintain that winning feeling. Hornsby were good last week against Lake Macquarie but so were Terrigal in their defeat of Gosford. Terrigal will go into the match as clear favourites. They remain undefeated this year and no team has troubled them so far this year. However, Hornsby is at home and that will hold them in good stead on the day. They will need, however, to play well all match if they are to overcome Terrigal. This should prove an exciting clash and a good crowd would be expected at Waitara on Saturday.

Gosford will be home next weekend at Gosford Rugby Field at the Showground when they take on Warnervale in what should prove a thriller. Both teams are coming off disappointing losses last Saturday so they will be keen to get quickly back into the winner’s circle. Warnervale have been in good form recently, and despite the loss to Avoca Beach last Saturday, they still played very well. Gosford also had a good second half last weekend against Terrigal but they know if they are to be competitive against the visitors they will have to play out the full 80 minutes. Warnervale and Gosford are currently 4 th and 5 th on the competition ladder so both will be keen to get that win. They also know there are teams just behind them who could threaten their current standings.

The Lakes will host Lake Macquarie at Slade Park next Saturday. The Lakes will go into this clash as favourites but they will be wary of Lake Macquarie in the match. This is such an important game for both teams. The Lakes got their first win of the season last Saturday so will be most keen to keep that that winning feeling going. Another win would see them still as a chance to get Finals contention. Lake Macquarie are still looking for that first win and that will motivate on Saturday.

In President’s Cup, the Razorbacks will host Avoca Beach at home, while Gosford/Kariong will take on Warnervale at the Showground.

Saturday also sees the continuance of the Central Coast Women’s 10’s competition. There are three exciting matches this coming Saturday – the Razorbacks will host Avoca Beach at Ourimbah Ruby Park, The Lakes meets Woy Woy at Slade Park, and Hornsby will take on Terrigal at Mark Taylor Oval.
