Central Coast are 2018/19 EG Weblin Shield Champions after defeating Camden by 21 runs in the final today at Frank Gray Oval.
On the back of a five wicket haul from Warnervale’s Karan Katli and a fine allround performance from skipper Lachlan Rainger, Central Coast were able to become the first side since 2009/2010 to claim the prestigious DCA Under 15 title.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Central Coast had lost their first four wickets with just 35 runs on the board. Alex Bell, 30 and Katli 23 were able to resurrect the innings however when they were both dismissed within 10 runs of each other the innings was teetering at 7/92.
Rainger and Daniel Rosine dug in to ensure the Central Coast batted out their overs and finished with 142 runs. Rosine finished on 21 not out whilst Rainger was dismissed for 17.
With just 142 runs to defend the Central Coast bowlers and fielders approached their task with gusto, however with Camden’s score at 2/60 the game was in the balance. Enter Karan Katli, who in the space of 10 overs turned the game with his off-spinners taking 5/19 off 10 overs as Camden lost their last 8 wickets for 61 runs to be dismissed for 121 runs.
Rainger proved an excellent support taking 3/27 off his 10 overs whilst Nick Toohey and Austin Haba picks up the remaining wickets.
All the players should be proud of their achievements whilst congratulations must also go to the coach, John Rainger who moulded a group of talented, but underachieving individuals into a team which finished the DCA season with 7 wins from 8 matches.
