Northern District has claimed the 2018/19 Country Cricket NSW Under 16 City-Country Challenge title defeating Central Coast by 5 wickets at Baker Park today.
The match which pitted the Bradman Cup and Green Shield winners was highly anticipated however Northern Districts proved too strong on the day.
Batting first, Central Coast got off to the perfect start putting on 46 runs for the opening partnership before Mitch Ryan was stumped for 21.
Ryan’s dismissal and the introduction of spin sent the Central Cast batting lineup into a frenzy, as they lost all 10 wickets for just 83 runs with only Harry Channells, 36 and Jordan Heil 18 not out standing out.
With a small total to defend the Central Coast took two early wickets to give them belief and then when they took two more wickets with the score at 50, the Central Coast supporters were right into the game.
To Northern Districts credit however they were able to steady and get the required runs for the loss of just one more wicket, to record a five wicket win and claim the trophy.
Skipper Harrison Townsend was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/23 off nine overs, whilst Mitch Giltinan and Nick Toohey also took a wicket.
Whilst coming up short today, Alex Patterson and his team should be extremely proud of what they achieved this year.
