Central Coast made a winning start to both the Country Cricket NSW Bradman Cup and Kookaburra Cup Carnivals in Albury today defeating arch rivals Newcastle in both matches.
98 from opener Harry Channells was the highlight of the Bradman Cups side 35 run win over Newcastle.
Channells was excellent before being tragically run out two short of a well deserved century. Mitchell Ryan 35 and Michael Drake 20 also contributed to Central Coast’s total of 9/232 from their 50 overs.
In reply Newcastle were dismissed for 197 with spinners Karan Katli 3/19 off 10 overs and skipper Harry Townsend 2/33 led the way through the middle of the innings whilst Jack Swainston also chipped in with two wickets.
Today the Central Coast take on ACT Southern Districts, who lost their Round 1 match agains Greater Illawarra.
Excellent bowling with the new ball led the way for the Kookaburra Cup’s six wicket win over Newcastle.
Daniel Thompson 4/17, Campbell Crossfield 3/22 and captain Lachlan Shedden 2/16 tore through the Newcastle top order having them 6/18 before at late innings fightback saw them reach 139.
This total proved no problem for the Central Coast who passed the score for the loss of just four wickets. Joseph Merlino 36 and Seth Slominski 29 got their campaigns off to a good start.
Today the Kookaburra Cup competition has a T20 double header with Central Coast playing Riverina in the morning and Western in the afternoon.
