CCJRU GRAND FINALS
On Saturday 9 September the CCJRU Grand Finals were held at Central Coast Stadium, Gosford. The day was a great showcase of the skills of young Rugby players , the large crowd given constant reasons to cheer the quality of play they were seeing. Special guest was Australian 7s player and Olympian Jesse Parahi, who played in many CCJRU Grand Finals when he was a Junior player with the Avoca Beach Club. Five different Clubs won titles on the day, with Avoca Beach winning the Club Championship for their results during the regular season.
The u10s was a first past the post competition that had been won by Avoca Beach
The u11s was a contest between two Terrigal teams, with the minor premier Red squad hanging on to their half time 17-14 lead, triumphing over the Blue squad by a single point 22-21 in a very exciting game.
In the u12s the minor premier Woy Woy team was behind 5-7 at half time to the Terrigal team that had won through to the Grand Final from 3rd place on the ladder. Running with the wind in the second half Woy Woy were able to finish strongly and claim a 24-7 victory.
The Avoca Beach u13s were attempting to claim their 4th consecutive premiership and by half time they seemed to be on track being ahead 17-0. But Ourimbah had other ideas and fought back strongly to reach a 24-17 lead. Late in the game Avoca Beach scored the only try of the match into the wind, but the difficult conversion attempt slid by the posts and Ourimbah took the match and Premiership 24-22.
Avoca Beach scored a very early converted try in the u14s, and then the minor premier Ourimbah team took control and went to the break leading 26-7. Both teams scored 19 points in the second half, with Ourimbah’s brilliant backs ensuring they always held a safe margin in their 45-26 win.
The u15s featured two teams who have been evenly matched all season, With Warnervale repeating their major semi final victory over minor premiers Woy Woy 29-19 after leading 24-12 at the break.
The u16 Minor Premiers Avoca Beach took a 21-0 to half time, but previous games had shown that the match remained open as Ourimbah would have the benefit of the second half wind. Strong defence kept Ourimbah off the scoreboard and a final try wrapped up the Premiership for Avoca Beach 26-0.
The final match of their Junior careers had both minor premiers Warnervale and Avoca Beach putting on display of fantastic rugby that demonstrated they will be assets to their Senior Clubs next season. With the wind Avoca Beach held a 14-0 lead at half time. Warnervale responded strongly with three unconverted tries in the second half, but Avoca Beach scored 2 tries and a penalty goal to take the u17 title 27-15.
The CCJRU u17 team were awarded their jerseys for winning the NSW Country title earlier in the season.
