Black Diamond AFL - Representative Football - Mens

Hunter Haval Black Diamond AFL will be looking to make it five wins a row when they take on AFL Sydney at Adelaide St Oval on Saturday.

Their task however will not be easy as AFL Sydney have put together a strong squad for the match a fact not lost on BDAFL Coach Chris Bishop.

"AFL Sydney is regarded as the pinnacle league in the State and whoever pulls on the jumper for them will be a good player" Bishop said.

The AFL Sydney squad oozes with talent with many former NEAFL players including East Coast Eagles defenders players Kieran Emery, Ben Bourke and Stuart Turner, ruckmen Andrew Browning and forward Mark Weekes, who along with North Shores Wayd Blackburne are expected to be the main scoring options for the AFL Sydney side.

Also in the squad is Pennant Hills veteran Matt Carey who in his prime was regarded as one of the best players in the state with his raking left foot kick, whilst former Sydney Swan rookie, Eugene Kruger will provide plenty of dash across half back.

The BDAFL side however is not lacking class either with Cardiff recruits Tom Yensch and Marcus De Leur heading a list of players who will be making their BDAFL Representative debuts.

The BDAFL have named a solid defence led by Zac Metcalfe and James Hart, whilst Newcastle City's Conor Haswell has had a standout year with his intercept marking and run off half back.

At the other end of the ground Killarney Vale coach and former Collingwood rookie, Scott Reed will be the focal point, with Maitland's Pat McMahon and Wade Beard also expected to be reliable avenues to goal.

The match is likely to be decided in the middle of the ground and Bishop will be looking to his big men in Yensch and Sam Ellis to get on top and give his small fleet of midfielders in De Leur, Aaron Seen, Alex Mitchell, Corey Billins, Mark Skuse and Jeremy Eddy plenty of quality of ball.

The BDAFL will be captained by Terrigal Avoca veteran, Peter Van Dam who will be representing the league for a record 12th time.

All in all it is shaping up to be a great contest.

The match starts at 2.15pm and if you can't get to the match you can catch all the action LIVE on BarTV.
