CENTRAL COAST RUGBY UNION

ROUND 14

The Match of the Day this Saturday sees the seaside derby between Avoca Beach and Terrigal at Heazlett Park. This is always such a big fixture on the Central Coast Rugby calendar but this Saturday is even more significant. Terrigal will be keen to maintain their current undefeated record while Avoca Beach know they must win if they are to reach the semi-finals this year. So both these teams have so much to play for, even above the inherent rivalry already existing between the two clubs. Terrigal will go into the fixture as favourites based on what has occurred this year but things will be difficult. Terrigal did not play their best rugby last Saturday and will be fully aware of that. They know they will have to lift to get the win on Saturday. On the other hand Avoca Beach are at home and they are always so difficult to topple at Heazlett Park. It all makes for a most interesting clash. Terrigal have good strength right across the paddock and well as good depth in the club. Avoca Beach have struggled a little recently on the paddock and are in the process of rebuilding to some extent. Even though they were defeated by Ourimbah last Saturday they played very concerted rugby and were most competitive for the whole match. This fixture certainly brings the best out of all players and the large crowd that will be on hand will certainly be willing their respective teams on to victory.

Gosford will host Woy Woy at Gosford Showground on Saturday and this also will be a most interesting clash. Woy Woy have been playing some good rugby of late, and will go into this clash as favourites. They entered the Top Four last week and will want to stay there. That makes this a most important game for them. Gosford really have nothing to lose and that fact alone would be a worry for the Woy Woy camp. The Lions have much more to play for and they will be fully aware of that. Gosford have played quite well in recent weeks despite losing to both Ourimbah and Terrigal in quite even encounters, but will be most keen to finally try to get an actual victory. Woy Woy have strength and speed, and last week’s win proved that they know how to score tries. This is another most interesting encounter and one where the result will be earnestly sought.

Warnervale will host The Lakes in another local derby, on the northern section of the Central Coast. The match at Woongarrah Oval is so crucial, especially for the home side. Warnervale are just hanging onto a Top Four chance at this stage of the season and need to win consistently from now on to ensure they reach the Finals. They know they must win this game and hopefully even get a bonus point. The Lakes of course will be trying to prevent this. The Lakes would love nothing best to defeat Warnervale on this occasion. So like the matches above, the result of this clash will go a long way to decide who will make up the Finals Series this year. There will be a lot of interest in this match and a quite large crowd should be in attendance at Woongarrah on Saturday.

Hornsby are at home to Ourimbah on the weekend and this clash at Mark Taylor Oval should see the visitors get the win. Hornsby have the players to trouble teams and their backline are very capable of scoring tries. However they are playing one on the form teams of the competition, and a team who cannot afford to drop a match at this stage of the season. So although at home, Hornsby will find this clash quite difficult.

The Entrance travel to Kariong Oval this Saturday to play the home side in their President’s Cup fixture. The Rams will be hoping to continue their good recent form.
