CCRU Preview Round 13

SATURDAY, 15th July, 2017

In the Match of the Day this Saturday, Ourimbah will host Avoca Beach in a match that will set these teams up for the final rounds of 2017, in a good or bad way depending on the result. Ourimbah are sitting in second place and want a win here to cement them into the Top Four but know Avoca Beach will give it their all to keep the spot they’ve just claimed in that Top Four. Ourimbah will go into the match as favourites, they’re playing at home and have looked a more consistent side over recent weeks than Avoca Beach. Avoca had a win last week over Hornsby, but had to fight hard for it when most people thought it should’ve been an easy win. The Sharks know they haven’t been playing their best rugby of late but will need to do so this Saturday to have any chance of beating the Razorbacks. Ourimbah had a close win over their rivals Gosford last Saturday and managed to grab a bonus point to stay in second place. They will look to the talent of their backline to secure another win this weekend. Avoca Beach will try to dominate in the forwards in order to gain the necessary field position to keep Ourimbah at bay. It will be a good game of rugby and will entertain what should be a large crowd at Ourimbah Rugby Park.

Terrigal will travel to Gosford Rugby Field to play Gosford. Terrigal will be favourites to maintain their undefeated status in this fixture but know Gosford will not lie down for them and will be tough to beat on a day when they will be celebrating 20 years since defeating Terrigal in the 1997 1st Grade Grand Final. These two clubs have a long history of playing each other in big games and as that is unlikely this year, Gosford will treat this match as the big game of 2017 and would love to be the first side to beat Terrigal in 2017’s Premier 1 competition. Gosford’s side has improved in recent weeks and while they won’t make the Finals, they do have the opportunity to make life difficult for all their oppositions. Terrigal have been far and away the form team this year and their undefeated record obviously shows that. They have great depth but will still rely on experienced players such as flanker Ryan Metcalfe, five-eight Adam Danckert, forward Sam Kenny, hooker Ethan McInnes, half back Sekope Maea and backs Mitch Hirst and Dan Sargeant to guide their side to another win. This will be another exciting clash.

Mark Taylor Oval will be the venue for “Back to Hornsby” Day when the home side take on Kariong this weekend. Kariong should win this match, but after hearing of Hornsby’s great performance against Avoca Beach last Saturday, they will be wary of the Lions who will no doubt love to claim their second win of the season. If Hornsby can hold Kariong in the forwards and give their backline quality ball, their talented backs will score points through their halfback Ben Astley, five-eight Mitch Fullager and Harry Fox in the centres. Kariong’s forwards Cory Holwill, Phil Brown and Josh Bottero will obviously do their best to stop this attack.

Woy Woy will host The Lakes at Woy Woy Oval. After a poor effort last weekend The Lakes will be looking to put in a much better effort on the field this Saturday and challenge a Woy Woy side who has won four of their last five games and appear to be hitting form at the right time of the year. The Lakes did not have their best side on the park against Terrigal in Round 12 and need their new players to be fit and ready on Saturday. Woy Woy on the other hand are coming off the Bye last weekend and will be fit and ready to go and will want to continue their good recent form this weekend to get back up into the Top Four.

The Entrance will play Warnervale at Joseph Banks Oval this Saturday in their President’s Cup fixture. The Rams will be hoping for another win to continue their climb up this competition’s ladder.
