CCRU Preview Round 7

SATURDAY, 27th MAY, 2017

The top of the table clash between Terrigal and Ourimbah at The Haven Oval is the Match of the Day this coming Saturday. These two teams have been the form teams in the competition so far this year even though the Ourimbah team had a setback last week when they were defeated by Kariong, for their first loss of the season. Up until that match no team had troubled the Ourimbah team. This encounter on Saturday should be a beauty. Terrigal are yet to lose a match this year and are playing in such fine form. Except for the first match of the year, when they snuck home against Warnervale, Terrigal have not been troubled. Terrigal is at home which is a real plus but this situation has not worried Ourimbah in the past. Ourimbah however would be worried about how they started their match last Saturday, and they know they cannot afford such a start against Terrigal this Saturday. Both teams have match winners all over the paddock. Terrigal will rely heavily on a fit and very mobile forward pack, and a backline they can take advantage of all the good ball they receive. Players such as flanker Sam Kenny, hooker Ethan McInnes, five-eight Adam Dankert, centre Dylan Calabria and winger Dan Sargeant will lead from the front and set the pattern for their team all day. Ourimbah will rely heavily on forwards Tyler Jones and Josefa Biu to win that vital possession and take it forward, while their backline does have the pace out wide to cause problems for any team. This is probably the match of the season so far and will tell us a lot about the pecking order in the Premier 1 competition at this stage of the season.

Another very close match will the clash at Woongarah Oval, where the home team Warnervale will host Avoca Beach. Both teams are coming off very good wins last Saturday. This is a significant match. Warnervale know a win will cement their high position on the competition ladder while Avoca Beach, who are currently out of the Top Four, know a win is so vital if they are to rejoin the competition leaders. It was be a close game and will be tight on the scoreboard for the full 80 minutes. Warnervale are always that little bit stronger at home and that is a real benefit for them. They know they will have to play more structured rugby this Saturday compared to last week if they are to keep Avoca Beach at bay.

The battle of the lions will occur at Woy Woy Oval when Woy Woy meet Hornsby in what should prove an interesting game of rugby. Both teams lost their respective matches last week and both will be most keen to quickly get back into the winners circle. Woy Woy were very much in the match all the way last Saturday against Avoca Beach but simply could not get the win. But being at home this weekend is a different story. Woy Woy are stronger at home and they know a win is so crucial in terms of the competition ladder. Hornsby, despite their loss last week, can score tries, and their backline can really make a lot of breaks if they are able to secure enough good ball. This match will be close although with Woy Woy at home, the home side would be favoured to win.

The Lakes are at home to Kariong at Slade Park in what is another interesting game of rugby. The Lakes are coming off a break so should be freshened up and ready to go. However they meet a Kariong side that is taking all before them at the present moment. Kariong had a great win last week against Ourimbah so they are obviously in great form. Because of that result Kariong will go into this clash as favourites, but with The Lakes at home, the match should prove a quite even struggle for much of the 80 minutes. Kariong will know they have been in a game of rugby.

The Entrance travel to Gosford Showground to take on Gosford in the President’s Cup on Saturday. These two teams are placed near the top of the competition ladder in this grade at present and a win to either side should confirm a good spot on the competition ladder as the midway point of the season approaches.
