CCRU Preview Round 6

SATURDAY, 20th MAY, 2017

The Central Coast Rugby Union season continues this Saturday with most matches generally appearing to be quite even struggles.

The Match of the Day will be at Kariong Oval where the home side will host the high flying Ourimbah team. These two teams have been travelling quite well this year, especially Ourimbah who are yet to look like losing a match this year. They are talking all before them so far. Kariong have had some great results and a bye last Saturday will see them freshened up this weekend and ready to go. Kariong are at home and are proving quite difficult to defeat at the top of the mountain this year. This will prove an interesting clash and may be Ourimbah’s first tough test this year. Kariong have a solid forward pack, and on their day their backs can cause damage out wide. However Ourimbah are playing very good rugby and have strengths right across the paddock. Kariong will rely on players such as Phil Brown, Mitch Clay, Scott Hanley, and the Holwill brothers. Ourimbah will depend on Tyler Jones, Brett Cunningham, Rob Richardson and Josefa Biu to get their team in front on the scoreboard. Rugby is a team sport and the team that plays the more structured rugby on the day will break through for the win. Ourimbah will go into the match as quite firm favourites even tough Kariong are at home.

Avoca Beach are at home to Woy Woy at Heazlett Park and the home side will be desperate to hit some form and to get a win. Their big loss to Terrigal last Saturday would not have gone down well so plenty of work would have been put in this week at training to quickly get back on track. However they are meeting a team who struck some form last Saturday in their very good victory over Gosford. This is a most even battle and will go right down to the wire. Avoca Beach will rely heavily on their more experienced players to get them home. Woy Woy also contain a mixture of youth and experience this year but it will be their experienced players who will have to lead from the front on Saturday. Avoca Beach are at home and that is a distinct advantage for them. However this year Heazlett Park has not been the fortress they desire and they will be most keen to make it so on Saturday.

Warnervale travel to the Gosford Showground where they meet Gosford in what is a vital clash. Gosford have dropped through the field this year after a good start and if they are to threaten this competition this year they must win this encounter. However they meet Warnervale who are in good form. They are coming off an impressive win last Saturday against The Lakes and their good early season form has them placed near the top of the competition ladder. Warnervale have had one of their best starts to the season and would have high hopes of making the Finals this year. Gosford are at home which is in their favour however this match will be tightly fought from start to finish.

Hornsby are at home to Terrigal on Saturday at Mark Taylor Oval. Terrigal will go into this match as very firm favourites. Hornsby are that little bit tougher at home and will test Terrigal early on. Terrigal displayed such great form last weekend when they easily accounted for Avoca Beach and it is unlikely they will be troubled in this clash.

The Entrance will host The Lakes in the President’s Cup on Friday night at Joseph’s Banks Oval. This will be another tough struggle and it is very difficult to choose a winner. The Entrance are coming off a great win last Friday evening.
