CENTRAL COAST U18s COLTS ON THEIR WAY TO QUEANBEYAN FOR A WEEK OF REP CRICKET

The Central Coast Colts will today depart for Queanbeyan to compete in the Country Cricket NSW Colts Country Championship.

The four day carnival will see all seven Country Zones plus ACT play a mixture 50 over and T20 matches commencing tomorrow.

The Central Coast will open their campaign on Monday with a 50 over match against Greater Illawarra. Tuesday will see a T20 double header with Newcastle the opponents in the morning followed by Central North in the afternoon. Further 50 over matches against Western Zone on Wednesday and Riverina on Thursday will round out the carnival.

The team with the most points at the end of the carnival will be declared the winner.

Central Coast last won the carnival in 2019/20.

The Central Coast are confident of a strong showing under the leadership of Kincumber Avoca, allrounder, Bailey Lidgard.

Central Coast Representative Chairman, Trevor Allison is happy with the squad that has been selected.

“The squad is well balanced with the majority of the team playing in 1st Grade competitions” Allison said.

“The carnival is a great opportunity for the players to test themselves against the best Under 18’s players in Country NSW and a strong performance by the team will give individuals the opportunity to press for higher honours”. He added.

All matches will be livestreamed via the MyCricket App (Central Coast Zone) with scores also able to be viewed HERE

CENTRAL COAST READY TO FACE NEWCASTLE IN THE McDONALD’S COUNTRY CRICKET NSW MEN’S COUNTRY CRIKCET FINAL THIS SUNDAY
7 December 2022

The Central Coast will be hoping to taste success for the first time when they take on Newcastle in the final of the McDonalds Country Cricket NSW Men’s Country Cricket Final this Sunday at Newcastle No 1 Sportsground.

Whilst Central Coast have yet to hold the Country Championship trophy aloft, their opponents are having won it a record 18 times including the last three years. Despite not having won the trophy Central Coast are no stranger to the finals having reached the final match on four occasions in the last 8 years.

Central Coast reached the finals by winning their Pool in Orange a fortnight ago and will be entering the final with the knowledge that their best cricket is equal to anyone in the competition including the powerhouse, Newcastle.

They will welcome back star all-rounder, Simon Keen for the final and his experience and strength through the middle order with bat as well as with the ball will certainly be an added bonus.

Jake Hardy was a standout in Orange with the bat averaging 112, opening the batting including an unbeaten 122 and a 94. He will receive excellent support from skipper Broc Hardy who has been in outstanding form this season whilst Brett Russell, Callum Rainger and Tom Owen will provide strength through the middle order whilst Harry Woodhead showed in Orange that he can “bomb” them late in the innings.

Central Coast’s strength though is undoubtedly with the ball and Newcastle will no doubt look to take down this strength from the start. Opening bowlers Alex Patterson and Scott Burkinshaw will have an important role to play and if they can get some early wickets this will expose the Newcastle middle order to the Central Coast’s main threat, their left arm spin cartel. Veteran, Chris Archer has been a standout performer at this level for in excess of 10 years and why he
only has represented NSW Country at two carnivals is anyone’s guess. Newcastle is aware of Archer’s influence and will look to dominate him. This year Archer has a very accomplished partner in Conner Haddow. The English native has excellent credentials and was a standout in

Orange taking 11 wickets including 7/24 in the final match against ACT. Youngster Tom Owen rounds out the cartel and whilst still learning his craft has the ability to take important wickets as is the skipper Hardy who has the knack of picking up wickets with his off spinners.

On paper this match looks to be very even contest but we all know matches, let alone finals are not won on paper and it is the team that wins the big moments on Sunday that will take home the spoils.

The match commences at 10am and if you can’t make it to Newcastle you can watch all the action live via the MyCricket App (Central Coast Cricket Zone) or you can follow the live scores

BIG RESULTS AFTER A HUGE WEEKEND OF CRICKET

Plenty of action across the weekend led to big wins and sorry losses, but that’s the way the cricket ball rolls…

Big First Grade matches on Saturday, backed up by Junior Reps and Round One of the Glen Rowlands Shield One Day Competition.

Here’s what you missed…

FIRST GRADE

Round 4 of the Diggers The Entrance Men’s 1st Grade competition commenced with a number of matches evenly poised after Day 1.

At Rogers Park, Southern Spirit will resume Day 2 at 2/78 having dismissed Wyong for 219. Winning the toss and batting, Wyong had a mixed batting card with Jack Harris 77 (74 balls 7 x4s and 5 x 6s), Corne Botes 53 and Callum Rainger 34 (5 x 4s, 1 x 6) all getting amongst the runs whilst four batsmen failed to trouble the scorer. Lachlan Bull and Jaylen Johnston were the pick of the Southern Spirit bowlers each taking four wickets.

Southern Spirit have made a solid start to their chase and Mitch Fiddock 25 and Zane Smith 22 will take up the chase on Day 2.

Ladder leaders The Entrance again flexed their batting muscle before Simon Keen turned back the clock late on the day to have Warnervale facing an uphill battle on Day 2.

Winning the toss and batting at Woongarrah Oval all The Entrance batters, bar one, reached double figures as they were dismissed for 288 in the 69th over. It was a Hardy fest with Jake 67, Broc 55 and Ash 48 all amongst the runs along with Shaun Byfield who made a well compiled 44. Overseas recruit Max Chappell stood out with ball for a Warnervale attack which worked tirelessly all day. Chappell took 5.63 off 14.1 overs with his off-spinners whilst new ball bowler Daniel Watson took 3 for 67.

Batting late in the day the Warnervale top order had no answer to Keen and they slumped to 4/13 before Grant Robertson 12 and Chris Sheppeard 11 were able to negotiate safely through to stumps with the score at 4/29. Keen was superb taking 4/17 off 7 overs.

Kincumber Avoca will require another 181 runs to take the points against 2nd placed Northern Power at Harry Moore Oval.

Winning the toss and batting, Northern Power were dismissed for 201, after being 4/156 and then losing their last four wickets for just 2 runs. Jordan Liddle was the pick of the batters with 62 whilst Ben Gillies 34, Mathew Clarke 30, Jeremy O’Connell 29 and Josh Abel 27 all got starts. Fresh from his ten wickets in 2nd Grade last week Bryce Birks was again amongst the wickets taking 4/33 whilst skipper Dane Heuston was also effective with his left arm spin taking 4/42. Michael Pate was his miserly self, conceding just 24 runs off his 16 overs removing both openers in the process. Kincumber Avoca safely negotiated their way to stumps finishing on 0/20.

At Duffys Rd, Terrigal Matcham have their nose slightly in front of Lisarow Ourimbah after Day 1.

Batting first after winning the toss, Lloyd Radcliffe set the platform for the Bellbirds falling just 11 runs short of a well-deserved century. His 89 runs came off 143 balls with 16 boundaries. Chris Brown 26 and allrounder Josh Bridge 23 were the next best. Magpies skipper Ben Sunshine continued his excellent form with the ball taking 4/47 off 17 overs with Dan Thompson 3/34 and Ben Doyle 2/45 (19 overs) others to perform well with the ball.

Lisarow Ourimbah lost both openers before stumps and will resume Day 2 on 2/32 with overseas recruit Ross Forrester required to lead the chase, currently unbeaten on 12.

In the final game, Brisbane Water put in their best batting performance of the season to have the upper hand against Narara Wyoming at Fagans Park.

As will all other games Brisbane Water elected to bat first after winning the toss and put on 55 for the 1st wicket before Brad Brown was dismissed for 20. Shaun Eaton continued his good recent form reaching 58 before being dismissed by the left arm spin of Tom Owen. The match was evenly poised at 7/187 before Lewis Cavender and Eric Den Hartog put on a partnership of 69 for the 9th wicket. Cavender was in a belligerent mood being last man dismissed for 86 which was made off just 74 balls and included 7 fours and 6 sixes. The Bluetongues innings finished in the 75th over with the score on 256. With the Fagans Park wicket favouring spin all year it was no surprise that skipper James Smith and Owen did the majority of the bowling. Owen finished with 5/74 off 28.1 overs and Smith 3/99 off 26 overs.

Former NSW Country bowler Den Hartog took two Narara Wyoming wickets prior to stumps, however veteran bat Peter Cross ensured Brisbane Water did not have things all their own way reaching 33 not out at stumps and he will be pivotal in the run chase on Day 2 when the Lions resume at 2/39.

In a peculiar twist Day 2 will be played in a fortnight as both 1st & 2nd Grade have the weekend off next with the Central Coast representative side competing in the McDonalds Country Cricket NSW Country Championships in Orange commencing on Friday.
